obv classic if you've just blown an epoch-making sax solo

dud if you wake up, try to brush your teeth, and yelp from the pain

Do you floss? I do (not often enough) and it seems to help. I've gone on an oral health drive lately and my gums are definitely better. Less blood all round. Except for when I take a chunk out of my lip, fuck ouch bugger ow ow ow.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Flossing is the way forward. Corsodyl works as well, but stains yr teeth a bit, esp if you spank the tannins.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

It only happens to me if I've been a lazy git and not brushed my teeth before falling into bed. I do not floss although I suspect I should.

Corsodyl = minging but v good for clearing up mouth ulcers! Although I prefer GIN, it must be said.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

It AWLAYS happens to me, whether I brush the night before or not! Nothings nastier in the morning than the taste of blood and toothpaste.

Does flossing really sort it out? DOesn't that hurt? I've always imagined that flossing means you end up sepearting the teeth and they all fall out.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I rinsed my mouth before I brushed this morning. And STILL the blood came out when I spat. Doesn't feel sore though. I am now convinced I have mouth cancer.

dud. any bleeding must be dud.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

flossing is the devil's pastime, but it must be done (half assedly)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

(the above is not very clear - I mean there was blood without my even brushing.)

luckily this only happens very occasionally with me. Most times I brush my teeth and there is no blood. Over-vigorous brushing does sometimes result in mouth ulcers.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

wait are bleeding gums a sign of mouth cancer?!?!

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I am slowly becoming convinced that ILxers must have the worst oral hygiene of all-time.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

slowly? it only took 12 posts!

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Mel, if you have mouth ulcers it is the best excuse ever to drink NEAT GIN. It not only gets you rather tipsy on the lovely juniper beverage but also amuses your flatmates as you pull ridiculous faces with each swallow.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

neat gin is much easier to get hold of than a decent dentist.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

After a couple of gulps it stops burning.

Then you fall over.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

jesus people! brush and floss at least after meals, and you will not have such disgusting oozing scabby gums. and at least a yearly dental cleaning!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Even my cheeba-smokin' beer and wine and booze and coffee swilling facehole doesn't bleed! T-O-O-T-H-B-R-U-S-H folx!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

A yearly dental cleaning?! Oy vey!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I go TWICE a year!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i brush regularly, floss a few times a week. i think the problem might be in my toothbrush, or the way i brush, or the fact that i smoke, or the food i eat, or something else.

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

"floss at least after meals"? You must spend a large part of your life flossing! That's why you have no time for anal sex!

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the problem is I overbrush.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i brush too hard, especially because i'm often in a rush mornings.

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

the dentist is over-rated. last time i went they were pissed at me for skipping like 3 years of appointments, and guess what? no friggin cavities. i dont floss either. brushing is surely enough. although i do bleed sometimes when brushing.

todd swiss (eliti), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

amateurist get one of those bronze-coloured thingies with the little rubber poker at the end and gentle prod your gums (the fleshy bit up where your teeth meet) every night. this will toughen them and soon your gums will be macho and impermeable.

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

hm what are those called in french? i can't imagine trying to explain what i need to the clerk through gestures alone.

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Bad gums = cause and/or effect of serious immunodeficiency disorders. I brush 2 to 4 times a day, plus floss twice.

Leee Trevino (Leee), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

now i have cancer and serious immunodeficiency disorders!

please, someone tell me bleeding gums are also symptomatic of an irregular heartbeat...
