okay, this is when we separate the men/women from the boys/girls morality-wise...is it wrong to steal a loaf of bread to feed your starving family? is it wrong to steal anything from ANYONE?

jess, Tuesday, 9 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

most important, is it wrong to steal someones SOUL...(oooooooooh...)

jess, Tuesday, 9 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

first question, no. Unless you spent all your pay on your crack habit and then must steal to feed your kids. second one, geez, how about some context here?

Samantha, Tuesday, 9 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i'm sorry, the context was stolen.

jess, Tuesday, 9 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"just coz you're not wrong, doesn't mean that you are right"...

What if the person you stole the loaf of bread was also starving?

jel, Tuesday, 9 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Only steal half the loaf. Or better yet still name brand bread from a large national chain.

Samantha, Tuesday, 9 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't understand... why isn't the person with the bread sharing?

Cryosmurf, Tuesday, 9 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I dont think stealing small food items (say under $5) really counts anymore.

turner, Tuesday, 9 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i have one rule: if you're stealing from a company that makes too much money its okay. if its a tiny locally-owned business, a not-for-profit organisation or a friend, DUD!

di, Tuesday, 9 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What about stealing things that seem to have no value or be wanted by anyone? Last weekend I stole a very small plastic dog that was partially covered in clay from the DPAG education suite. I dont think it was missed.

rainy, Tuesday, 9 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

which companies make too much money? this is the sort of question a five year old has perfect moral clarity on and answers 'no' but as people age they learn to equivocate and delude themselves into thinking they have achieved moral perfection by being able to manufacture justification for any possible act.

keith, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I steal something every day.

Jm, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The problem with that is that you are not fucking over the CEOs you are fuckign over the middle mamagers of stores. In Chains they make much less then you think. I knew someone who managed a walmart and his take home was slightly above 25k .

anthony, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Jm, what did you steal today?

rainy, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Rain y you imp, your goign to hell. Stealing is, like all moral questions, relative to the circumstances.

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

for fucks sake, we were talking about a LOAF OF BREAD, not a freakin' SPORTSCAR!

di, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

People who steal for fun are cool, poor people who steal out of need are just parasites who should be prosecuted. How do people allow themselves to get that poor anyway? Laziness is my guess.

dave q, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Maybe so Keith, but the 5 year olds with perfect moral clarity are on the rob the whole time (nicking sweets, biscuits, their mates toys etc. etc. - at least every 5yo I've ever met does this) whereas your wicked moral equivocators don't tend actually to nick much stuff.
