Have you tasted it? Try it. It tastes kinda sweet, depending on which brand you get. I experimented with it once, and I'm not wierd!!. Now if you'll excuse me a pink elephant is calling me.

Dante-Cubed (Sean3), Thursday, 4 December 2003 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Dante-Cubed (Sean3), Thursday, 4 December 2003 04:08 (twenty-one years ago)

for a good time use superglue!

geeta (geeta), Thursday, 4 December 2003 04:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Earlier on I said you can eat glue and I'm sticking to it.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Thursday, 4 December 2003 04:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Icing Glue
Day 2
This recipe is for a single batch. You will probably need several, but if you make them all at once, keep them in separate bowls: it dries very quickly and is like cement. Keep it well covered: one piece of saran wrap touching the icing itself and another on the bowl.

3 egg whites
1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
3 - 3 1/2 cups icing sugar

In a large bowl, beat the egg whites until they begin to foam. Add the cream of tartar and beat until the whites are stiff but not dry. Gradually beat in the icing sugar, beating for about 5 minutes until it reaches spreading consistency. Keep it covered and refrigerated until needed.

one year passes...
Does anybody actually use glue for anything? It seems worthless to me!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 21:52 (twenty years ago)

I can't think of any other way to repair a cracked neck joint on a Gibson...

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

Also, anybody who has licked an envelope recently to thread.

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

xpost
But how long would it hold and would it still be useable? Wouldn't it be better to just replace it?

also, that's not really the same thing. I'm talking about liquid glue.

oh man, that was supposed to go on the weird food thread

laurence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

oh, RE: the Giboson- I've had that problem myself with the SG and known someone else with the same problem. It was fixed with a screw and a bolt.

laurence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

spencer?

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

yes RJG? what's up?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

You can't really replace the neck joint on a guitar without replacing the whole body, and actually repaired (with liquid wood glue) necks & neck joints can last quite a long time.

If you're a collector (or planning to sell to collectors), you're probably better off with an original-but-repaired guitar than an original-but-some-part-replaced guitar. At least for vintage stuff...

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

You fixed a cracked joint with a bolt and no glue?

Also note that set-neck guitars (like most Gibsons) have their necks glued into the neck pocket the first place.

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:07 (twenty years ago)

"does anybody actually use glue for anything? It seems worthless to me!"

haha!

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:07 (twenty years ago)

I know I've used glue.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

I would use it to bind things, but I just wouldn't trust the bond!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

glue is worthless! are you george costanza?

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

what do you prefer, spencer?

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

"You fixed a cracked joint with a bolt and no glue"

no, with glue plus the screw I should've said. ugly as hell but it worked.

laurence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

no, with glue/plus the screw I should've said/ugly as hell/but it worked

laurence kansas (lawrence kansas), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

xxpost, I like tape better, and binder clips.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

tape isn't just gluey paper?

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

"Okay kids, today we're going to do glitter pictures! Everyone get out your staple guns..."

The World's Worst Kindergarten Teacher (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

or plastic.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

no, with glue/plus the screw I should've said/ugly as hell/but it worked

Wood glue would have done the job just fine, though you need a vice or something to hold the whole joint together for a while as it sets. The screw probably filled that roll for you.

SGs have problems with neck joints relatively frequently in the overall scheme of things because they are damned neck-heavy guitars. That's my only beef with them. Every time I've played one I've always felt like I had to work to keep the neck from falling down while holding it. Les Pauls don't have that problem. They are usually heavy as fuck but balanced. But hey, I'm a Fender guy anyway, and their necks bolt on.

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

xxxpost, I should have said, liquid glue or paste. Like Elmer's.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

I don't know what that is, sorry.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:17 (twenty years ago)

By "filled that roll" I meant "filled that role"

Wood glue is liquid glue.

I have used good ol' white Elmers to repair LP covers that have come apart at the seams before.

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:18 (twenty years ago)

Elmer's is the standard white glue here in the USA. We used it a lot for crafts in grade school.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

Although I admit the bottle of Elmer's I own is very small, and I've had it for probably a decade now without running out. I also have a Gluestick which has been in my desk for maybe 12 years that I've probably used twice.

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

like PVA glue?

the white stuff that dries clear and a bit shiny?

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

I guess everything has its use, almost.

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

You can use Elmer's Glue to simulate horrifyingly bad eczema and generate exuses to leave school/work.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

Sounds about right, although I can't remember if it dries shiny...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

It disturbs me that the same cow is the mascot for Elmer's Glue and Borden's Milk.

I Am Curious (George) (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

Well, after the milk dried up...

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

It makes sense though. It's not like a cow can't be used for both.
