Have you ever been here?

What's it like?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 4 December 2003 06:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been wanting to go since I moved back here, but sadly I still haven't gone.

Any relation to this:

The Crab Shanty

Nice

All I can think of is how that place could really benefit from a Warriors-style gang. Maybe a slew of chain-wielding yachtsmen.

I always wanted to go, ever since first spotting it in the Hagstrom. But I don't think I ever actually made it. :-(

I got all excited thinking we were talking about Hart Island

The record store there is wonderful to browse in, but very, very overpriced.

two months pass...
Mooncurser is a great store and even though they're expensive most of the records are on sale for half the sticker price. It reminds me a little of my college radio station's record library -- you can loiter there at the turntable for hours trying out anything and everything from their gigantic collection of our-of-print LPs.

out-of-print

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 12 February 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Mooncurser's probably the best record store in the picked-over scrubland of New York City. The old man's a nice guy. Prices are on stickers on the inside of the sleeve, but as Jody said, he rings them up at half-price. Just a warning: there aren't really bargains there.

And I've thought many times about moving to C.I. Maybe if I get this job at the Maritime Coll.

Dickerson Pike (Dickerson Pike), Thursday, 12 February 2004 18:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh, I've been there. It was wonderful, even though I had a record store white-out in Mooncurser's when confronted with so many records and suddenly couldn't think of anything I wanted. When we get back to Manhattan and said we'd been, puzzled New Yorkers looked us blankly and said "where?"

Tag, son, I'm the fella who took you there.

Dickerson Pike (Dickerson Pike), Thursday, 12 February 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course, now that I have a car in the city going there doesn't take the interminable ride on the IRT, long wait at Sketchy Plaza, and trip on NYCTA bus. So next time you're in town...

Dickerson Pike (Dickerson Pike), Thursday, 12 February 2004 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

(there is an express bus that goes there from midtown if you've got a couple extra bucks to spare)

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 12 February 2004 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

(not that i do)
