Archetypal thread arcs

The sex thread, in ten easy steps:

1. Facetious or possibly serious sex topic posted (generally about masturbation or anal sex)
2. String of quick-witted supposedly amusing short replies
3. A few longer attempts to discuss issue by usual suspects (may include some metaphorical fisticuffs, also by usual suspects)
4. The quick-witted replies become increasingly lavatory-oriented
5. Finally, one of them prompts a tangent, generally not sex-related but still icky, and incestuously in-jokey
6. Someone starts posting pictures, often of foodstuffs, and others join in
7. Things eventually start to tail off and thread shudders to a halt
8. A week/month/year later, someone posts "REVIVE!"
9. Someone else posts "best thread EVAH" or "worst thread EVAH" or something of that nature.
10. Thread stutters on for a few more posts, then dies again.

REVIVE!

Cockfarmer In The City, Monday, 5 January 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually I went to Cafe Revive in Marks and Spencers yesterday. It was okay. Not that good, but not that bad either. It was so-so. The tea was nice, but the cakes were a let-down.

Matt (Matt), Monday, 5 January 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

No wonder if they had been revived like a thread...
