Not quite a premonition, but...

About a week before Sept. 11 I was working on a photoshop project using GIF. images of 747s. While messing with background color, I stumbled on a crimson red that made the thing seem just really, well, wrong, out of context, and eerie. The image of these planes superimposed on a red field is now stuck in my memory. I wouldn't call it a premonition exactly, but in the context of recent events, it does take on new significance. Also--really scary story--A freind of my mom's was in the Louvre a few days before the attack. A man approached her and asked if she was american. She said she was. He asked her what part of the US she was from. She said Santa Barbara. He congratulated her for not being a citizen of LA NY or Chicago because 'they' were going to 'completely destroy' these cities. Anyone else have strange dreams/events/premonitions? And if you are living in an urban center, do you sometimes get a little paranoid watching planes fly over the city/hearing emergency vehicles?

I dream a planes crashing into buildings all the time. Watching planes crash, not being in them... I dreamt of it the night before it happened. But since I have dreams like that frequently, I don't really consider it eerie. Just a coincidence.

He congratulated her for not being a citizen of LA NY or Chicago because 'they' were going to 'completely destroy' these cities.

'They' always will be threatening to do so -- alas, Babylon, etc. The usual. No premonitions on my end, and frankly I'm glad, otherwise I would have been going nuts trying to figure out some way to warn people of, well, something...

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 9 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah but Ned, the WTC is gone. i worry about what could be next.

turner, Tuesday, 9 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No premonitions. But Turner, aren't you in Chicago? The planes have been flying over the north side like crazy. For the first couple of weeks, it was about once or twice a week, in the wee hours. Then Saturday (the day before our huge marathon), they were flying all morning. It's been bad the past couple of nights, particularly last night / this morning, but I'm starting to get used to it. I understand the need for it, but it's unnerving - normally, it only sounds this way when the Air and Water Show is going on. National news says that fighter planes are flying over certain cities, but I didn't see it on the local news. And the fire sirens - I notice them all the time now.

Planes on the flight path to O'Hare (I think) bank sharply, from my vantage point, before dissappearing behind the Hancock Center. This is a bit unnerving to watch.

For about two seconds this morning I was *convinced* that at some point during the day that I would be crushed by thousands of tons of concrete smashing down on our office building. I could almost feel it -and the weird part is that the more I try to dismiss the fear, the more I am half convinced that it will actually happen and will have that sureeal quality of "I can't believe that this IS actually happening". But I'm sitting here quite uncrushed. Serious question tho... can anyone think of a plausible reason why someone in a single small apt in the centre of a residential complex would mount three separate satellite dishes that block off nearly all of their windows? There's this odd business going on across the way, and the lights are always on all night.... wish I had binoculars.

Kim, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Film director Harmony Korine, who left New York for Connecticut, e mailed me last year: 'i hate the city where you live. i hope it is destroyed soon.'

Not quite a premonition, but...

Momus, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I meant why would the satellite dishes BE mounted in the windows and not why would someone mount three dishes in the windows... and me wanting to see... I sound quite perverse don I?

Kim, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Talk about true evil here...

Anyone notice something odd in that picture?

Brian MacDonald, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Which Sesame St. Character is that? Ernie?

turner, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, his evil lover Bert -- as you can see, it is the latest of his many crimes.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm glad this was asked. I am not a beleiver in such things, blah blah blah, but I dreamt the very night before that I saw smoke rising from a building in the city and that something had come from the sky. It looked in my dream chillingly like when the WTC was smoking. But in my dream the smoke was actually a complex system designed by MIT to protect Boston from the fireball fomr the sky. Odd.

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm scared someone will do something and I will suffocate on the tube, in all honesty. That's my key fear. I hate the tube so much, it'd suck to die there.

Paul Strange, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw a really weird thing this morning. It was an aeroplane flying above London, which had a really long nose and wings that seemed to be further back than usual. It also had what looked like either enormous jet engines (clearly visible, unlike on a normal plane) or some kind of storage tank or something. It was white, with no markings and looked exactly like the spy plane that was filmed circling above Kabul a few days ago. I've never seen anything like it - very strange.

Madchen, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That is strange Madchen. I've become *very* aware of planes. The first day that they started flying again I nearly had a wreck when one flew over on my way to work. Hank and I were sitting on the porch the other night marvelling at how many planes there were in the sky. It seemed one was taking off or flying into the airport every couple of minutes. You can't live your life in fear though. But that might just be easy for me to say b/c right now I live in a city which I'm certain is far down on the terroist target list.

Samantha, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

madchen, that sounds suspiciously like a b1 bomber! not the stealth bat thing but the generation before.

I work a couple of miles from Northolt air base, there's always helicopters with no markings flying in and out of there, more so lately.

the only premonition thing ever to happen to me was the strangeways riot, I was in the room when it first came on the news and tried desperately to convince my parents that it had been going on for more than a day but it ghad only just started so I must have dreamt about it the night before.

chris, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bombers aren't white, are they? It was very clearly visible against the sky. Can't think why they'd want to bomb Stoke Newington either. Now, if I'd been in Slough...

Madchen, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Harmony Korine orchestrated this plot? That would make so much more sense.

Damnit, just the mention of the words "Harmony Korine" make me want to throw up (granted I'm already sick but). ARGH.

Ally, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

He had a beard at one time, it makes sense.

Nicole, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bi bombers are generally painted white as they fly at high altitude where white is the best camouflage, sometimes they are grey though. I'll go off and find a link and you can see one.

chris, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hmmm, they seem to be mainly grey these days, but here's the fact sheet:

chris, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, no, it looked nothing like that! It was like a long, white cylinder with the wings very far back and a round nose. Much larger than your B1.

Madchen, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

a B1 is feckin massive!!!

chris, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

madchen in ufo spotting shocker

chris, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

maybe all the 73 buses had got in a jam at Park Lane again, and it was a Hackney Council stand in.

Alasdair, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I believe I saw an RQ-1 Predator Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. There's a better picture of it halfway down this page. It's the BBC picure I really recognise it from - the nose was really distinctive. Quite what it was doing in North London I'm not sure.

Madchen, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I dread to think! mind you they're probably cheaper for the police to use than helicopters for following joyriders!

chris, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

maybe it was a test flight, they are using these now in Afghanistan.

Mike Hanle y, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

On September 9 a friend sent me an e-mail titled "we are the skyscraper condemnation affiliate" from a song she liked. She usually uses songs for subject lines but that one was an odd coincidence.

Maria, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

At 4am Sep 11, the night before the attacks, my friend Rob Nadeau was woken in his Dumbo (down under manhattan bridge overpass) loft by the loudest sound he'd ever heard there. Rob stumbled groggily to the window and saw a FLEET of what he said were Apache helicopters doing maneuvers over the river, with their searchlights on. They spiraled around like insects for about 45 minutes and vanished.

?? He told me this day-of btw.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 10 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i have a bad premonition. i don't believe in premonitions and shit like that, but i feel very tense about tomorrow, and also the subsequent 9 days.

gareth, Thursday, 11 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

two years pass...
I've had a terrible sense of foreboding all day today, which I just can't explain and which won't go away, and for some reason I've been fighting the urge to go up to the loft and find the old 9/11 newspaper articles and read them again. I feel really unsettled, which is very uncharacteristic for me. This is not nice.

C J (C J), Monday, 10 May 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
saw 6-8 fighter jets, maybe more, doing maneuvers near the airport, right near a major interchange. They came so close to the road I saw them in my mirrors and peripheral vison and thought they were cars at first.
