Fox and the BBC have fallen out, so it looks like we'll be watching the third series of 24 with all the ad breaks in. (or at least some, do they have more ad breaks in the states?)

I haven't made my mind up whether it's a good or bad thing, but then I'm not sure I'll be watching it anyway!

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 5 December 2003 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i was planning to download them all anyway - hurrah!

stevem (blueski), Friday, 5 December 2003 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

You're so modern!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 5 December 2003 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

that's what the m is for

stevem (blueski), Friday, 5 December 2003 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Every episode will actually last an hour now! Yay!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 December 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

It'll be odd watching it with breaks. Will it add to the suspense?

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 5 December 2003 10:58 (twenty-two years ago)

It is the way it was supposed to be made. But whither Pure 24 and gap-toothy Tamzin's banal interviews with the cast who don't realise where we are up to yet.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 5 December 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i got so frustrated being drip-fed it before - i would suggest taping it and then skipping the adverts at least

stevem (blueski), Friday, 5 December 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I suppose you skip to the last page of a book because the suspense is too much for you. Pshaw, suspense is FUN!!!!

Pete (Pete), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't read Pete (your last post was read to me by my assistant)

Pure 24 was just horrendous (thus irresistible)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Hm, David Thomson makes the wise suggestion that the show should continue into the ad-breaks -- and beyond. BTW it needs fewer characters, a stronger line, less action, less mystery. The suspense ought to be about Jack's moral struggle, not stupid girl-on-the-traintracks nickelodeon bush league stuff. More like Graham Greene's 'A Gun For Hire'.

N-Ri-K (Enrique), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

less mystery? NO there must be more traitors and plot "twists", more more more - and the best-buddy must turn out to be a robot in the penultimate episode. or something

Alan (Alan), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Enqrique - what, like in the Grant Prix, when you come back after the break to find out that Jack Bauer has been shot eight times in the chest?

Robot - no. 12ft Lizard or Chickenbear or nothing.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Jack can struggle morally with a dinosaur if he wants.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I spose Jack and co would star in the ads, take part in real covert ops...

Ultra Male Secretary (Enrique), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

enrique that should be your name all the time

stevem (blueski), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm getting closer with each and every step.

N-Ri-K (Enrique), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

That David Thompson 24 article was one of the worst things I had read all year. Why didn't he (and S&S) wait a month so he could actually talk about the plot contents and the somewhat lacklustre end to series 2.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

It was kinda bad, wasn't it? His newie on the J-Hoba's book is no gr8 shakes either. However, it has a kind of mad quality that I applaud, especially in the otherwise dusty environs of s&s. Something tells me N1ck J4mes don't watch '24'...

Enrique (Enrique), Friday, 5 December 2003 11:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Only the premier is a full 60 minutes.

It's good to have commercial breaks because I pee a lot.

Leee Trevino (Leee), Friday, 5 December 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

And the winner is?... Sky One. Cheers. Now I'll have to download it.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Apparently they're going to sell it to a terrestrial channel, but one condition is that it isn't broadcast until 6 months after it's on sky. Channel 5 have been linked with buying it from them.

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 17 December 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

five months pass...
i downloaded the last few episodes so no adverts, yay!

the last few episodes have been among the best episodes of 24 EVER (from any series). The one scheduled for transmission on Sky One tomorrow night (assuming I've not miscalculated) is just incredible wrt to the way a situation is created and the way people act for the remainder of the episode, the finale being truly shocking in many ways. for some reason the concept really grabbed me and pushed me into imagining myself in the position of the most unfortunate, tragic victim, which was frankly horrifying and if i thought about it for longer i'd go insane. such is the power of this kind of well-woven fiction executed so brilliantly. a classic 'what would you do? what COULD you do?' TV moment for the ages (and of course there's a whole other humourous side to it that I'll gladly expand upon Friday morning - JUST WATCH IT OK, UK PEOPLE WITH CABLE!)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

also just want to declare my love for the brilliant genius (technical AND social) that is CHLOE, Aspergers and all

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I was so happy a few weeks ago when I was at a coffee shop and "Chloe" SAT DOWN AT THE TABLE NEXT TO ME!

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to say, when I tuned in to the end of the season I was really, really taken aback at how tense and amazing the show was.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Gear! you utter bastard - was she wearing the same 'miss prim' librarian outfit?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

heh, do the Americans know which 'situation' i am talking about based on what i wrote? remember, no proper spoilers!

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

let's just say Jack Bauer pretty much lives out the American Dream (tenuous Homer Simpson reference)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

She was wearing a summer dress of some sort and looked strangely hot.

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Too hot?

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Not quite too hot, but hottish in an unexpected way.

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Tell us steve! I haf no clue what you mean.

vleeetrmx21 (Leee), Thursday, 10 June 2004 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

stevem are you talking about the character who claims he n"eeds a smoke" but is probably trying to get away from an unfortunate fate?

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 10 June 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know what Gear's talking about either.

vleeetrmx21 (Leee), Thursday, 10 June 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I believe there's a reference to a "man in charge" falling into an unexpected situation.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 10 June 2004 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

OH YEAH. I thought he was talking about the finale.

vleeetrmx21 (Leee), Thursday, 10 June 2004 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean they really took care of business this year, they didn't exactly fuck around when it came to things like that.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 10 June 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Even though they did BEAT AROUND THE BUSH WINK WINK NUDGE NUDGE for 75% of the season. I mean, you know, DICKING AROUND.

I really don't mean anything, really.

vleeetrmx21 (Leee), Thursday, 10 June 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

NOOOOOO! NOT CHAPELLLLLE!

I wonder how many viewers it's been getting - surely 5 million is possible for Sky One these days? if not more? i think it used to get around 7-8 million on BBC2.

I found out who dies next accidentally after seeing it mentioned on the American 24:3 thread...can't say i'm surprised tho.
