charltonlido (gareth), Sunday, 7 December 2003 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

my skin is splotchy, more like hives, really. i think my stomach has been this way since this morning.

itchy fucker, Sunday, 7 December 2003 10:30 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe it's scabies.

DV (dirtyvicar), Sunday, 7 December 2003 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe shingles, the adult manifestation of chicken pox? It's supposed to be unbearably itchy, having that. Aveeno oatmeal baths are supposed to be good for itching. Or oatmeal in general, though that probably seems weird.

Itching inside the mouth and hives sounds to me like an allergic reaction to something. (I react that way to penicillin.) Are you taking any medicines? Do you know if you have any allergies?

j.lu (j.lu), Sunday, 7 December 2003 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

probably best to buy some moisturizer, too

Kingfish Beestick (Kingfish), Sunday, 7 December 2003 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Various types of lymphoma cause chronic itching.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 7 December 2003 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The last time I was that itchy all over I woke up the next day with a head to foot rash. Doc said it was a "viral rash" and couldnt be sure what kind, possibly german measles (tho I thought I'd been innoculated against that). I was rashy for about 4 days and made to stay indoors as I was probably contagious, which suited me fine as apart from the rash I didnt feel ill!

But also itching in the mouth? Measles? See a doc I'd say.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 7 December 2003 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe you have excema (not sure of the spelling) which is basically patches of REALLY dry skin. i have heard that it is quite itchy.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Sunday, 7 December 2003 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
i just woke up and i was itching everywhere, especially on my upper arms. after looking around, there are red splotches and uncolored welts all over me: arms, chest, stomach, back, thighs. i'm assuming this is hives? (i can't remember ever getting hives before.) i have no idea what triggered it. i itch like a motherfucker right now, though. is it advisable to see a doctor? or do i just wait for it to go away?

nb: i don't have any food allergies (that i know of) and all i had last night anyway was a pb+j and then several beers well before the itching even began.

Does your bed have fleas?

suckling pig at a rave (alix), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:49 (twenty years ago)

i hope not. i did just wash my bed sheet a couple days ago, but not the comforter or mattress cover.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:54 (twenty years ago)

sounds like hives--take some benadryl, jaymc. it's probably allergies to something random. if the benadryl doesn't help, or if the hives come back after a day or a few, go see the doctor.

sgs (sgs), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:56 (twenty years ago)

Nervy spaz attack? Hives can be caused by stress. Are you abnormally stressed? Claratyne is good for allergies. If it gets worse see the doctor before you slip into a coma & die; also, you could be contagious.

salexander (salexander), Monday, 3 October 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

When I mysteriously got hives the other week, the doc told me to buy over-the-counter antihistamines and take two a day for a week, and go back if this didn't make them go away. I did, and it did. Hope you get better soon!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

that seems smart. thanks, guys!

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:06 (twenty years ago)

Jaymc, what did you wash your bedsheets in? Those perfumed detergents irritate lots of people.
My mother got terrible hives once from Ibuprofen. Aspirin, also, can set it off.
As for all i had last night anyway was a pb+j and then several beers well before the itching even began...You poor baby! We need to get you a nice mail-order bride. She/He, whichever yr preference, could prepare you home-cooked meals and scratch your itch!

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:36 (twenty years ago)

I had something like this once. I had just switched to some generic no name detergent and it caused an allergic reaction. I'd never had any allergic reaction to anything before.

peter in montreal (spaces are allowed), Monday, 3 October 2005 12:50 (twenty years ago)

i'm too old to have chicken pox.

My mother had chicken pox for the second time when she was in her 40s.

nathalie, a bum like you (stevie nixed), Monday, 3 October 2005 13:04 (twenty years ago)

I never use perfumed detergents. It's the same stuff I've been using for a while now, so I doubt that it's the culprit.

Anyway, I picked up some Benadryl at Mark and sgs's suggestion, so I'm going to see how that goes. I already put some hydrocortisone on most of the affected areas, so I'm already feeling better.

Beth, thank you for your concern about my dietary habits! Ha, yeah, last night I took a nap and then woke up right as I was supposed to leave to play a show, so I didn't have time to make myself anything more than a sandwich. But that's also unfortunately typical of my life. La dee da.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 3 October 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)
