Indie people shouldn't be buying scooters.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

You bought that used at a flea market when you picked up the crock pot, right?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

And it comes with its own self-contained geothermal generator so no fossil fuels will be burned thus killing us all by next year?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not indie. I'm metrosexual. I prefer insert fingers in other mens anus.

ywnty, Tuesday, 9 December 2003 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the scooter is awesome.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 9 December 2003 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

That is possibly the greatest comeback to "U R ALL INDIE" that I have ever read.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 04:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I am *so* jealous.

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 06:25 (twenty-one years ago)

you rock. that's sooo hott.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 06:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it a 125? I am hopefully going to get one soon too - I wonder if scooter shops have January sales?

Seriously though - if anyone in or around London wants to buy a 3-year-old derestricted 50cc Aprilia with a knackered starter motor (but a fully functioning kick start) for £500 ONO, let me know.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

vespas are sooooo great!

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Congrats! Scooters are good. But I still can't get used to these new-fangled fancy-pants 21st century Vespas. I admit I'm a scooter elitist, in that I only like "classic" Vespas (I have a 1974 Rally 200 that I miss very much as it is back in Toronto).

No, I am not a mod.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Vespas are awesome, but it's hilarious to see people trying to drive them to work in rush hour traffic.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I think they're cool in principle, but every time I've seen someone riding one, they look like a jackass.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

only on ilx: jet buys scooter!

(...sorry...)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked Fooly Cooly and all, but not that much.

fletrejet, Tuesday, 9 December 2003 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

rock on.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I know this Spanish guy that rides a fancy shmancy Italian one. He's kind of an asshat.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i would buy a scooter if there was any way to avoid becoming a scooter person (same with a motorcycle), but it seems inevitable that once you have one, that is all you talk about.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I think they're cool in principle, but every time I've seen someone riding one, they look like a jackass.

Only because they go flying over the handlebars after stopping too quickly (sans helmet). That said, rev on and try not to lose any skin.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not so fond of the new scooters, too shiny and nice - the classic ones are great, though.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the problem actually is that the Vespa is like 1/2 a step up from those fucking razor scooters from a few years ago, and I associate Vespa-owners with former-razor-scooter-owners, not a popular demographic in my book.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

These new Vespas look like crap. What the hell were they thinking with that hideous oval headlamp? The contours on the side, meant to evoke the removable side panels of the old ones, are just an empty gesture. Are they actually made of metal? Or is is plastic? Doesn't matter much -- they just look like Hondas or Yamahas to me.

That said, they probably run a lot more reliably (and with a 4-stroke engine, much more cleanly) than those goregous old ratty 2-stroke metal ones. On balance, I say why not just buy a Japanese scooter (or a Bajaj) and skip the Vespa premium price.

Octothorpe (Octothorpe), Tuesday, 9 December 2003 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I like to get all high and mighty about my '74 Vespa, but when I'm stuck on the side of a road with a broken cable or an injector problem or some other mysterious problem, those fancy-pants (i.e., 'reliable') new ones seem pretty good. It's a burden I willingly bear. That said, I had mine totally re-done from top to bottom 3 years back and haven't had a single problem since.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the new Vespas, and manage to get through most days not mentioning the fact I'm a scooter owner. Oh, and I wear a helmet, which always helps with cracked skull issues.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

vespas are real chick magnets. my roommate saw a vespa parked outside of our apartment for weeks and speculated on who was the suave dude who owned it. finally one day we saw him and he was some dirty hippy. oh well.

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I dunno about them being chick magnets, but they certainly do have some effect. I used to ride my old Vespa to work and my jock-asshole co-worker used to always say "dude, you look like such a fag riding that thing". Then he would see me getting chatted up by cute girls when I was getting on my scooter, and giving rides (most were friends, but he didn't know that). He was reeeeal quiet about it after that.

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

This is my model (my actual scooter is British racing green and everything possible is chromed). Yes, I am a scooter nerd.

This is my vespa. It is sitting in my hallway for the winter.

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

who is the hot chick behind the vespa?

amateur!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd like to trade in my POS car for one. I walk everywhere, and only drive on Sundays or going to the grocery for stuff. The money I would save paying insurance would definitely make it worth it.

Dale the Titled (cprek), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
