Okay, because I never think these things through properly. Who is up for the 30th December Poker Hand Pub Crawl (possibly to be renamed theRoyal Flush pub crawl depending on quality of pubs).

Five pubs. Best poker hand possible. Soho / Belgravia / Fitzrovia kind of area.

So counting Ones as aces (and princes as Jacks if necessary). What is the best Poker Hand of pubs we can define within walking distance. Best poker hand will be derived by a) the rules of poker. b) The quality of the pubs.

Steering committees decision is final.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm free/game

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Three Kings and two Queens - King's Arms, King's Head, George, Queen's Head and the Admiral Duncan.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

don't suppose a pub with mACE in the name would count?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 11:37 (twenty-one years ago)

But a pub with Ma$e in the name would count DOUBLE.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

The Ma$e And Ministry

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i will be there.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Wherever there is. (I'm thinking on the good bouzers).

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

What do you get for a Duke? We could go to every Duke Of York in Clerkenwell & Bloomsbury.

Spontaneous Existence Failure (kate), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Duke of Argyll in Soho.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Big Duke, Little Duke?

(Wait, isn't that a raver dance?)

Spontaneous Existence Failure (kate), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure you'll get far (including out alive) in a poker game by claiming you have a full house, dukes over admirals. There must be a Jack or Knave or Ace somewhere, maybe even a Ten Somethings.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Four of a kind = Blue Posts -> Blue Posts -> Blue Posts -> Blue Posts -> I dunno, the Toucan.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt DC is winner of this game so far. Not only four of a kind but all of the same colour too!

Ten Bells of course on the Commercial Road. One Tun (if ones is aces) on Goodge Street. Not an easy crawl that though.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

How about going to lots of All Bar Ones, I know Pete would really love that.

Emma, Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I frequent all sorts of drinking establishments Emma.

Bar one.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i wonder if a Tarot Pub Crawl is possible?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Welcome my fellow Goth!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

'This Corrosion' was an epiphany Tom, an epiphany

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

The card you have been dealt is... RUIN!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

then i guess a Tarot Pub Crawl is ludicrously straightforward

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I am monitoring all these suggestions for a final route to be published on Friday. Tarot card idea is good.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

hold on, why is this on the 30th? i thought we were doing the 28th?

(NB it makes no difference to me whatsoever as i have ludicrous amounts of time off over wobs, as does our noble pub crawl leader of course ;))

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

okay what is/are wobs?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm game for a beer on the 28th too but that is perhaps best left for other threads.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha Stevem doesnt even know what wobs is.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

loser

chris (chris), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

steve, do you have a nokia phone with predictive txt?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a nokia phone but I always keep the predictive txt switched off.....

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not in town on the 28th and I would like to do the tarot card pubcrawl! I am in town on the 30th, though!

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

who got their phones out to work out what wobs was?

*puts hand up and runs to hide*

jellybean (jellybean), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

MarkH you are a loon!!

cf. Venetian playing cards - cups, swords, rods and, erm, discs of some kind.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, It's XMAS. I didn't even get my phone out for that!

(God I am pathetic that I know texting manually so well...)

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

The Old Nick would work for the Tarot pub crawl (what with the Old Nick being the DIVELL and that) but its former name would have been good for either a poker or tarot crawl: the Three Cups. Curses.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i was surprised to find my non-nokia's predictive txt also comes up with WOBS, with an option to complete to WOBST which sounds german (when I first got my phone it was set to predictive text in german ?! OMG!!11 LOL etc) but it's a name not a word. odd whatever.

(note to Noodles - can we have predictive txt in the message box here? ho ho)

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I've not contributed to this as I know bugger all about the poker hands. Can someone less idle than me list them or place a link or wotnot?

The Ben Crouch = the Grim Reaper pub shurely? (For tarot)...

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

i get 'wobr' not 'wobs', u r all hax

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I now get Wobr too, I feel wobbed.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

What are you all talking about I need to know now dammit!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

the West Oxfordshire Boating Regattas are organised by 12ft lizards clearly

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt it's all about the text messaging on wireless telephones as done by the Young People.

You wouldn't like it.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha, matt dc STILL has no mobile

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm getting one for wobs!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

That was the most feeble attempt to fit in ever. I go now.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt DC. Stay the course. Stay true. We are the future when they catch The Rage from it. Or ear death. Or something.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

ILX gives you cancer anyway

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)
