Waht's the SUREFIRE way to get over this in 48 hrs, before I go away for the weekend? When do I know I can move beyond eating rice?
(no puking, just the other. I stupidly ate the "OK parts" of a bad apple on Monday.)
― Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 10 September 2008 21:06 (seventeen years ago)
Surefire? Not possible. But a few hints...
Yeah, drink a lot of waterYou need to eat but you will probly puke (and the rest)Painkillers, antacid etc.If there's one hint I'd say, eat what you feel like - don't worry about nutrition, just whatever appeals. In my experience you're likely to keep it down.
Hope your weekend away doesn't revolve around food because it won't be high up on your favourite things for a while!
― Treblekicker, Wednesday, 10 September 2008 23:14 (seventeen years ago)
Lomotil, but only if your gut is still bothering you when your travels start.
― Jaq, Wednesday, 10 September 2008 23:31 (seventeen years ago)
In my experience you're likely to keep it down.
Keeping it down is not the problem...
I'm going to Philly to eat junk and drink. :P
― Dr Morbius, Thursday, 11 September 2008 19:02 (seventeen years ago)
My husband was saying my bowels made such awful noises during the night.
I lost three kilos. SIGH. Not throwing up, only, y'know,... the runners. Urgh.
― stevienixed, Sunday, 2 November 2008 19:34 (sixteen years ago)
Also, you don't know what it is: poisoning or stomach flu. Both have teh same symptoms. And what does it matter? In a couple of days it's (hopefully)- over. Take some Immodium Instant. (Which we didn't have during the weekend.) I only took Interol.
― stevienixed, Sunday, 2 November 2008 19:35 (sixteen years ago)
Four kilos actually.
― stevienixed, Monday, 3 November 2008 12:22 (sixteen years ago)
How much is a kilo? I lost half a stone last week.
And now, just when I thought i'd kicked it, the sodding thing is BACK.
Do any of those over the counter remedies actually work? I've always been taught to just sweat it out.
I thought it was a virus, but seeing how it's come back about 24 hours after eating very similar meal to what I ate about the same time period before the last one... I'm beginning to wonder if something in my fridge that I';m taking for granted is seriously off.
― post-apocalyptic time jazz (Masonic Boom), Monday, 3 November 2008 12:43 (sixteen years ago)
here they recommend immodium (which stops the runners) and also enterol (which restores bowel flora (this is how we call it anyway)
i feel like utter shite. i'm hanging on the counter trying not to faint when serving customers. hard job to do. the other day in a shop i srsly thought i was gonna faint. but i asked for the loo and had a sitdown for a couple of minutes.
― stevienixed, Monday, 3 November 2008 15:19 (sixteen years ago)
btw four kilos is almost nine pounds. yep, NINE POUNDS. this is not really how i wanted to achieve my weight goal. hahaha
― stevienixed, Monday, 3 November 2008 15:20 (sixteen years ago)
Food poisoning is the best calling-in-sick lie.
― rubisco (Abbott), Monday, 3 November 2008 21:07 (sixteen years ago)
I also lost quite a bit of weight from a minor case of food poisoning. Perhaps as much as 7 or 8 lbs. In the past few years, I've kept slim because of two things 1)had my appendix out & didn't eat hardly anything for about days, and 2) food poisoning (possibly caused by eating a slice of pizza after not washing my hands after working on my motorcycle and having grease, oil and gasoline on my hands). When you do get better from food poisoning, food tastes SOO AWESOME and you only want to eat great, healthy organic foods like fruit and grains and really safe stuff, and not processed junk and meats. In the long run, make this a reason to eat healthier and safer.

I booked a band to play my Dj night last sunday. Singer showed up with food poisoning. He slept in the corner until it was his time to play. Then jumped up and rocked out. Then went home.
I was seriously impressed.

― Aimless, Friday, 21 August 2009 02:45 (sixteen years ago)
the Immodium must go on for me
― Indiana Morbs and the Curse of the Ivy League Chorister (Dr Morbius), Friday, 21 August 2009 02:49 (sixteen years ago)
Immodium is great but sometimes it's better to just let it flush out. Especially for children: before the age of six, no immodium as otherwise the bacteria stay inside the bowels.
― Nathalie (stevienixed), Friday, 21 August 2009 07:33 (sixteen years ago)
I just want to EAT again. Four days of Gatorade & saltines is enough.
― Indiana Morbs and the Curse of the Ivy League Chorister (Dr Morbius), Friday, 21 August 2009 12:39 (sixteen years ago)
Immodium's like quick drying cement and messes you up for days. Fuck that shit.
Or, fuck that! Shit!
― is Wii your mom or somethin (onimo), Friday, 21 August 2009 12:46 (sixteen years ago)
I had the "shitters" for about a week during my pregnancy. Thank god it wasn't a "run for the loo" thing though.
― Nathalie (stevienixed), Friday, 21 August 2009 13:07 (sixteen years ago)
So I'm not sure if this is food poisoning or not. I've had food poisoning a few times and I know how much it wrecks my guts.
But so far my stomach only ever hurts every now and then and it's in a very specific spot 2 inches above my belly button. I don't ever really feel nauseous but the big D just keeps coming. I assume the headaches, muscle aches, and occasional dizzyness are just side effects from dehydration? I'm going on day 3 now and hoping it disappears by tomorrow. Do I have swine flu?
― Fetchboy, Friday, 21 August 2009 13:56 (sixteen years ago)
No, stomach buster.
― Nathalie (stevienixed), Saturday, 22 August 2009 20:41 (sixteen years ago)
yep same here, apart from my not having a wife. if i did i assume she would have it too though, assuming we weren't so estranged that we never spent time in close proximity.

This is a useful thread, thank you ILX.
1. Peppermint tea is not good for your stomach, it is an irritant. Ginger is good.
2. Has anybody tried Flagyl? My doctor friend has recommended I take it. It is a gentle antibiotic that she says has positive pro-biotic side-effects.
3. Do not eat whole roast suckling pig.
― E.I.E.I. (Ówen P.), Sunday, 16 September 2012 20:43 (thirteen years ago)
psyllium husks are very useful for bad stomachs, will help both runs & constipation. Not sure where you get them from easily elsewhere than Galway. Think I've looked in London before and not found hem as easily. Here they're in the health food shop in bags for something like €1.29 or €2
― Stevolende, Sunday, 16 September 2012 21:17 (thirteen years ago)
Are we talking food POISONING, eating spoilt food...or just a condition like gas or constipation? Because food POISONING, well, even if it isn't that severe, get that checked out!! Seriously, you might end up in a coma or WORSE.
I got food poisoning once on a stuffed mushroom and it was hell. Usually your whole body is involved. I thought I was going to die. It was on Thanksgiving. My family got me some type of sedative, like a Tylenol PM because I was vomiting so much and my fever was very high.
I don't know what I would take, but something to help you rest and lots of water if you don't see a doctor.

Fuck you, 蒙牛
Ironically, the only milk I have trouble digesting is COCONUT MILK which c'mon you aren't even milk, why u gotta play me like that.
This flaw in my otherwise iron-clad GI system made travel in Sri Lanka a bit dicey, because there is delicious coconut milk in basically all of the delicious curries. After a while I worked it out so that I could be like "OK well if I eat this curry now, I should be OK for the 3:00 p.m. train."
― quincie, Saturday, 8 March 2014 14:15 (eleven years ago)
what is a good transitional meal between the bananas & rice diet in the aftermath of the liquid shits, and normal greasy eating? bcz this is where i have been fucking up for ten days.

oatmealmashed potatoes a plain sandwich like turkey, or cheese

― skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Monday, 13 July 2015 19:20 (ten years ago)
it's easy, even instant unsweetened packets where you add water would be ok
i only suggested cheese bcz you said you could handle yogurt, but def dont overdo the dairy

― skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Monday, 13 July 2015 20:35 (ten years ago)
Oatmeal is dead easy then. Don't get that microwave crap in packets; even regular "old fashioned" oats are microwaveable. 1.75:1 water to oats ratio (ymmv), pinch of salt, nuke three minutes; add a spoonful of butter, splash of milk, sweetener of choice, handful of dried fruit.
― dart scar rashes (WilliamC), Monday, 13 July 2015 20:43 (ten years ago)
Brat diet: bananas, rice, applesauce, toast. But I also recommend psyllium husk which will help absorb liquid. Which you should be drinking a bunch of, regardless.

w/out the sauce?
― skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Monday, 13 July 2015 21:12 (ten years ago)
yeah, tomato sauce would prob be too acidic
a splash of soy sauce or a little bit of olive oil for flavor? idk - i would say butter but since yr no butter you're on your own :)
