karaoke in london

one of the events generation dean agreed to put on next year is 'karaoke for dean' which is just so exciting to me.

now we need to pick a venue. we think we'd like to just show up at a regular karaoke night at a pub, rather than hiring out our own room or whatever (we're all poor)

what's your favorite place to karaoke? is there room for 10-20 people to show up and sing?

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 11 December 2003 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

The one used by ILX in the past is the Pint Pot on Tottenham Court Road.

It's fallen from favour among some posters because it's not a great pub. But for something like this it sounds a good idea because -

- it stays open until 1am
- there's room for a big bunch of people to come in and most of them will get a song
- there's a lot of language school students and Americans in the crowd anyway
- it's very friendly and the selection is good (based on my last visit rather than on collective ILX visits)

Karaoke is on Thursdays and Fridays.

Oh sweet Jesus...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 11 December 2003 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

cool, thanks tico!

colette (a2lette), Thursday, 11 December 2003 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

(NB I would be TOTALLY IN FAVOUR of another ilx FAK)

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 11 December 2003 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

(preferably with plenty of notice)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 11 December 2003 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

(and no karaoke)

chris (chris), Thursday, 11 December 2003 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too.

Chris, stop hating fun, always with the fun-hating!! (x-post)

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 11 December 2003 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I nominate a karaoke FAP where everyone sings Darkness songs purely to annoy Chris.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 11 December 2003 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Ironically the best song I could do at a Karaoke would be a Darkness one as I seem to be able to do the high notes.

Thing is though Matt, how could you annoy me if I wasn't there?

chris (chris), Thursday, 11 December 2003 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris I don't know why you hate karaoke, you have a wonderful voice as anyone who has heard your version of "Girly Girly" could attest!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 11 December 2003 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

the ironing is that Chris does the bext impression of Justin Hawkins i've heard anywhere

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 11 December 2003 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i think we've got too many fun events in jan for gen dean anyway, so this wouldn't be till later. a practice run ILX FAK would be really cool! i'm up for it...

colette (a2lette), Friday, 12 December 2003 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course last January we had a more than memorable karaoke night.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 12 December 2003 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

was that the storm one? That may have been the one that finally tipped me over the edge into Karaoke-hate

chris (chris), Friday, 12 December 2003 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Relive chilly memories here:
London FAP Karaoke: Thursday Night

Pete (Pete), Friday, 12 December 2003 11:03 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, i think that was the same night we had the annual 'supercheese' and people couldn't come because there was like 1mm of snow on the ground. and i went to a friend's work holiday party, even though christmas was long gone.

still. karaoke. anyone interested, that isn't scarred from last year?

colette (a2lette), Friday, 12 December 2003 12:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Despite the storm, it was a fine day for a white wedding...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 12 December 2003 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Please note that this does *not* mean it will be a nice day to start again anytime soon.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 12 December 2003 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

So January then?

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 12 December 2003 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I was trying to remember what was going on that night, cause I remembered the snow and Suzy and I laughingly moving very fast through it as the English slipped and slid... ah yes, Laika. That was a very strange night, indeed.

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Friday, 12 December 2003 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember that the cheapest flight was earlyish, so I passed the time by walking the Circle Line. While it snowed and snowed. Also Dave Q's inaugral FAP!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 12 December 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

You walked the entire circle line?! Andrew how on earth did you make it into work the next morning?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 12 December 2003 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Nails, me.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 12 December 2003 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Rocks, your head.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 12 December 2003 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

ken c, Friday, 7 September 2007 13:17 (eighteen years ago)

CarsmileSteve, Friday, 7 September 2007 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

There's one in the pub across the road from me right now.

Someone's doing a dreadful version of 'Everything I Do (I Do it for you)'

Jill, Thursday, 13 September 2007 20:54 (eighteen years ago)

Ooh karaoke. Marvellous.

Mark C, Thursday, 13 September 2007 22:59 (eighteen years ago)

I like karaoke. Can I come too?

Daniel Giraffe, Friday, 14 September 2007 07:18 (eighteen years ago)

yes.

CarsmileSteve, Friday, 14 September 2007 09:05 (eighteen years ago)

What are the odds that Daniel can actually really sing though. I reckon high.

Mark C, Friday, 14 September 2007 09:47 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, its been a long time and the gang needs to get its voice back.

Pete, Friday, 14 September 2007 10:07 (eighteen years ago)

What are the odds that Daniel can actually really sing though. I reckon high.

I could sing before my voice broke, but that was in 1980/81. I do hope they have some Prince Far-I at this karaoke.

Daniel Giraffe, Friday, 14 September 2007 10:41 (eighteen years ago)

hi, the one tun had it on the 15th sept, but i withheld the information because i wasn't going to be there and i'd be jealous. i think the next one is llike october early or something! let's go!

ken c, Sunday, 16 September 2007 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

ken c, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 09:17 (eighteen years ago)

It was really great!! We must definitely attend the next one and this time I will have the MCR tracks DOWN PAT :) I think I will do 'Teenagers'!

Sarah, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 09:20 (eighteen years ago)

Oh yeah were you still in LA?!

Sarah, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 09:21 (eighteen years ago)

Ken we are so ahead of you, we were all there on on the 15th, post-Trig Brother. I made a right pig's arse out of Boom Shake The Room.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 09:21 (eighteen years ago)

We shall never speak of the Welcome To The Black Parade again.

Can't make the next one, at a pahrty. But we had the run of the gaff and it was excellent fun.

Pete, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 09:25 (eighteen years ago)

when IS the next one then?

this sounds great. do they have loads of songs and tings?

ken c, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 11:11 (eighteen years ago)

must be karaoke time soon

ken c, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 13:50 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

doing this on friday at bloomsbury bowl.

pls tell me what to sing from this quite extensive list

N1ck (Upt0eleven), Wednesday, 29 April 2009 12:24 (sixteen years ago)

17326: Africa by Toto

nate woolls, Wednesday, 29 April 2009 12:27 (sixteen years ago)

with a hideous quantity of drunken enthusiasm I went with Personal Jesus. If Nick Cave were to perform a version of that song it would sound not entirely dissimilar to mine, but a bit better (prob).
