Donor Cards

How on earth do you get one? Do you think the system should be opt-out rather than opt-in? How does it work in the US? My mum has one but hates the idea of having an opt-out system because she sees it as theft.

you don't really need a proper one. just get a scrap of paper and scrawl "take my bits" on it and sign it and keep it in your wallet.

This is a thread about Donor Cards, not chat-up lines.

But, but! What if you could be revived and the doctor treating you secretly gets paid by an evil company that traffics in organs - and he let's you die so that he gets paid for your pieces!

The NHS can't afford that.

My driver's license has it marked.

BUT! If you haven't formally signed something and/or informed your family of your decision so that they can approve the process, they can't get at your inner bits. Unless you're dealing with a Dirty Pretty Things type scenario, in which case they don't give a fuck about donor cards. So I wouldn't worry about evil doctors, because they aren't going to justify that shit with a card - as it would be no less criminal than doing it w/o.

If you go to donate blood, the app will ask if you want a Donor Card: yes/no. One tick in the box, and you get one in a few weeks.

Fill out those donor cards when you're young and filled with goodwill and then forget about them, because if you're like me you won't do it when you're older. This is horrible but the older I get the more protective I get about my body. When younger I thought, hell yeah, donate all my organs, and cremate my body, but now I'm trending toward fully body preservation and having myself enshrined in a mausoleum.

I'm tempted to do the Japanese monk thing with the nuts and the walking and the pine needles and the arsenic.
