My parents had some Christmas tree lights which used to belong to my grandparents. Most were still going strong well into the 1980s and I think it was prolly the nineties before we had to throw the wiring out coz there were insufficient working bulbs to make keeping it worthwhile. The sets of lights they've bought since have lasted two years max.

Give exemaples of how old-fashioned built to last contrasts with your modern built-in obselescence.

My grandmother had a bizarre looking Indesit fridge all through my childhood, till about 1992. I think it was from at least the 60s.

my stereo amplifier is still going strong and has been since the mid 60s. it's a marantz.

It had a keyhole in the handle but I never saw it locked.
