SHOUT FOR THE MODERATOR VIII

Here is the FAQ, where you can learn more about ILX. (although I think it needs to be updated a bit)

Here is the Admin Log, where you can see what moderations have been performed recently and why.

Please limit this thread to practical issues of moderation, NOT the discussion of moderation policy, who should be a moderator, whatever. I will start a new thread to discuss these topics in the next couple of days.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 18 December 2003 04:21 (twenty-one years ago)

CAN WE PLEASE HAVE NO SILLINESS HERE. ONLY POST HERE IF YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC ISSUE YOU WOULD LIKE DEALT WITH BY A MODERATOR.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 18 December 2003 04:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Genuine request:

Paris Hilton cellphone #. As of just recently, still working.

This not only violates privacy, but it seems genuinely creepy as well.

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck that noise. How else can I learn about British lodging? "It's for my term paper."

DarrensCoq (DarrenK), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Does "posting personal information about people in the news that is also all over the Internet" fall into the same category as "deleting personal information about ILX posters"?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

The PH thread is strictly not to be taken seriously. It has evolved into a piss-take of Ms H's name, surely on the lame side (not unusually for threads I hop onto, especially past midnight Aus time), but pretty much harmless.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Would people please stop posting my real name and my work address? If someone googled this the consequences for freedom-lovers everywhere would be dire.

George Bush (Enrique), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I would hope that any editing that would happen to that thread would take the shape of obscuring the phone number, not deletion.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

BTW, that was actually what I was asking for - editing out the number, rather than deletion.

Just because something is "all over the internet" doesn't protect us.

Also, I just feel uncomfortable with *anyone*'s phone number posted to ILX.

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

seconded... for what it's worth.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Agree with Dan Kate and Mark. Can the number, rest OK.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Am I missing something? It surely isn't her real number?

Enrique (Enrique), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

try it and find out enrique (it surely isn't by now anyway) If I were ms Hilton, I would sell the number to a premium-rate line of some sort.

Agreed w/r/t removing the number - private information of this sort shouldn't be posted, who would like it if their number was posted on bbs for laffs?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i've got axl rose's mobile number. can we post that to replace paris number? it will be funny.

griffin doome, Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

(sorry x-post, can't remember who to) I don't think that matters.

Precedent, your honour.

Posting the phone number of someone who is not actually here to even ask for it to be deleted? Doesn't matter if the person is a "celeb" or not, I think it's a bad idea.

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

so ixnay on axl's mobile as well? ilx is no fun!

griffin doome, Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

E-mail it to me.

DarrensCoq (DarrenK), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

perhaps you could gine axl's number to kevin shields, and vice versa. Then perhaps they could collaborate on a new record.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

and paris hilton could cover 'little baby nothing' with them!

some guy i know who was owed a bunch of money - and the other guy wasnt paying up - gave him his rolodex - ha ha - axl was in there witih a bunch of other celebrities!

griffin doome, Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

OK that is the 6th Manics reference I've read so far this morning on ILX, wtf is going on here?

Allyzay, Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I've left my keys at home. If one of the moderators could pop round there, pick them up for me and bring them to the office, that would be great. My brother should be in, let him know what's happened. He might make you a cup of tea if he's in a good mood. But time is tight so I'd be very grateful if you'd be quick about it. Thanks!

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

This is the thread where we DEBATE PARTICULAR MODERATION REQUESTS

Please direct Paris Hilton talk here.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, Dan, there's a post on there that needs to be edited now. My fault.

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Thursday, 18 December 2003 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't worry, that whole thread is getting deleted. It was a bad idea in the first place.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

\Sorry if I made you mad, Dan. I'll go sit in the corner and eat a dick now. :(

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

No no, you need your rest Sam, I'll eat it for you. Dan, chop chop, let's go.

DarrensCoq (DarrenK), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Is it possible to require a reason for moderators locking threads? Would be nice, because it seems to me that that gets done more capriciously than most deletions of threads or posts.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I need to say this. If it gets deleted or locked, then sobeit. But I NEED to say it.

Sorry, "Sam" or whatever you're calling yourself now, but I feel lied-to and violated that you hid your identity for so long. I've been taking it on trust for a while that people on ILX *are* who they claim to be. It took a long time to get to that point, to restore that kind of faith in other people. And all along, that faith was not justified, that someone has been consistently lying about who they are, for whatever reason.

You say that it's "to protest your IRL identity from people at work" - you know what? You're a teacher. I don't know what the rules are in Texas, but in the UK, we're in the midst of a huge legal case WRT what kind of disclosure teachers and other people who work with children should be acountable.

If you are afraid that discussion of mental health issues and child abuse issues could affect your job as a teacher, maybe you shouldn't be bringing them up in a public forum.

(Not to mention that it brings into question what you ARE telling your employers, and if you would even be qualified to be a teacher in the first place were you to tell the truth.)

That is my last word on the subject.

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

christ yer an asshole, kate.

griffin doome, Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I am going to quote Andrew here:

CAN WE PLEASE HAVE NO SILLINESS HERE. ONLY POST HERE IF YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC ISSUE YOU WOULD LIKE DEALT WITH BY A MODERATOR.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

it would be nice, Colin, yes.

replying to something that I posted on the other thread before it was locked, I think if there was a seperate email address which ppl could use to inform moderators where they have a problem with something, it should be one which a number of the mods could access so one poor person wasn't bombarded with all the emails personally and had to read through them all (which sounds vaguely purgatorial). How about an email address completely separate from ILX, Freaky Trigger or anything vaguely associated with it, eg a web-based email address set up to which all the mods know the password?

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I think a "shout to the moderator" board would be sensible.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Can someone please provide a contact address to me personally for moderators so I can voice a concern without posting it to the board/creating a thread?

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate, if you have issues with Sam, fine, none of my business, but posting that thing here will just cause more arguments, people dissing you (like Doom-e did) etc. You and Sam should discuss these things privately, not here.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry Dan but I must rebutt.

The Americans with Disabilites Act protects employers from discrimenating against people with medical illnesses. The only thing that would prohibit an otherwise qualified person from being a teacher are felony convictions. One of my administrators does know about my bipolar disorder and could give a rat's ass except where my health and well-being are concerned.

I haven't been hiding my identity. Many ILXors know my real name, have sent me real mail, called me and vice versa. Stence and Gareth have met me and can verify I'm not a pyscho. I"m not the only one who goes by a psuedonym here and prefers their real name not be used on board - Rosemary, HStencil and Felicity to thread please.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

can i just say that sam posted her phone number on ilx once? not exactly hiding is she?

griffn doome, Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

MODERATOR! A contact please! Anything else is deemed as "getting personal".

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel like I'm saying sensible stuff and no-ones listening. Maybe this is an illusion.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I am all for that idea, Mark.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

this thread is the wrong place for all this stuff, again, and for this:

I don't know you, kate. you may be really lovely, in real life. here, you can be quite annoying and post extensively about little more than yourself.

I don't know sam, either, and, although I don't recall really enjoying posts/threads, I've read, by her, I wonder why you are being such a complete asshole about this. I wondered from your first plea for her not to be a moderator, a long while after it had been mentioned, with no mention of it again. Your continual use of her real name when you have requested that p. hilton's maybe=mobile # be obscured.

thankfully we have read your last word on the subject.

anyway,

: )

[crosspost since kate, sorry dan xxx]

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

MarkH OTM.

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Fred is not my real name (in case anyone was wondering!) and I and I alone have the right to divulge it.

I had been mainly agreeing with Kate before that last post, but if she had posted that on one of the boards where I am mod, it would have been off before her finger left the enter key.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

to be fair, kate did ask for the removal almost immediately...

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

*chews popcorn*

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Catty, mail me at normanfay(at)btconnect(dot)com and I'll forward whatever you want to the mods list. Sorry i couldn't respond sooner - work & all that. I'll be here for the next 2 hrs.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

*grabs Sarah's popcorn and stuffs it in mouth*

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

best thread evah!

can I have some popcorn?

chris (chris), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

*pours popcorn down RJG's pants*

Allyzay, Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

: )

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

No you idiots you're not allowed to eat anything but dick.

Maybe a little fuc

DarrensCoq (DarrenK), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Blimey, I'll make another vat! After this thread is locked how about we watch some special features? I hear "the making of" with special DG interviews and Turlough from DR WHO is a corker!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Re: PH's number... that leaked over the internet a month ago. It worked for a day until she duh changed it. Been there done that.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Pashmina -- message coming.

Catty (Catty), Thursday, 18 December 2003 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

erm i just posted some purple flying thingys on 'Fluff' thread, can someone get rid of (at least) 4 of the 5 pictures, i think they might be a bit too big in file size? i've no idea why 5 copies got posted, and i'll try to behave in future. honest.

yer pal,

zappi (joni), Thursday, 18 December 2003 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

*cough*

zappi (joni), Thursday, 18 December 2003 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

If you really want that done, it can be, but a part of me can't help but wonder if you've noticed the state of the rest of the thread...

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 December 2003 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

erm, i was just thinking of the bandwidth....and then i looked at the thread again....um

zappi (joni), Thursday, 18 December 2003 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

If it's the same pic duplicated, bandwidth usage is the same whether there is one instance or many.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 18 December 2003 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel sorry for Andrew trying to make this a sensible thread and yet again certain people have been blatant stupidheads and whined about personal shit here.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 18 December 2003 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks Trayce.

I wish you people could just try to be a little bit sensible. In case you hadn't realised, I've recently been putting a lot of effort into this whole ILX business and it's not really making things any easier by polluting a thread that I specfically asked to remain clean.

mark grout OTM - Moderator Request Forum

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 18 December 2003 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm just unlocking this thread to post:

I can't believe what fucking assholes some of you people are. Either that or you're blind. What the fuck is this shit. I ask for a sensible thread about moderation requests and I wake up to find this?! I'm sorry, but I'm pissed off.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 19 December 2003 00:12 (twenty-one years ago)
