War of the 'style gurus' - Yorke's star seems to have fallen in recent years whereas Elms is still going strong. But which iz best?

I may be the only person who even associates the two.

Yeah, you want Stephen Bayley vs Peter Yorke and Jools Holland vs Elmo. Yorke is better on account of him not being Robert Elms.

Jools Holland?? You're an arcane fellow Enrique.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 18 December 2003 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm talking early-mid eighties yoof presentxors. I'd shoot both. Or all four, really.

I'd like Jools Holland vs Elmo off of Brush Strokes. He was really funny. "Thing is Jacko..."

Holland is the alt.Westwood, I've finally concluded. He has a voice all his own that actually has little to do with the black American music that he's known for. Yo wake up! Morcheeba is gonna bang in your face. Etc. Marcello's JH impression remains my fave ILX post.

Does anyone remember that TV series Peter Yorke did about six or seven years ago, "Peter Yorke's Eighties"? I'm sure I watched at least one episode of it but I can't remember what was in it.

(This show led to an excellent slip of the tongue in an edition of Mark Radcliffe's Graveyard Shift show - someone was discussing this programme and they accidentally rendered it as "Peter Tork's Eighties".)

Peter York I actually remember being vaguely funny at some point in the eighties, whereas robert elms is just vile. He wrote some article in weekend guardian last year the permise of which seemd to be that outside london, it was just the home counties in all directions 'till you meet the sea, and everybody who lives there = little englander. It is perhaps the stupidest thing I have ever read in thje guardian, against some stiff competition.

Stephen Bayley functions as a kind of absolute zero point for weekend magazine columnists. Perhaps if you try very very hard, for a period of many years, you will be as rubbish as stephen bayley is right this very minute.
