This years annual twixt Christmas and New Year pub crawl withh be the other Euston Hexagon, which has been much better titled The Mornington Crescent. This time we go north from Euston and swing round in almost the exact opposite direction to last year.

We start at 3pm on December 30th in the Head Of Steam. This is followed by a trip at four to the pub opposite Euston on Eversholt Street (the Prince George I believe). We then work our way up Evershilt street, turning at JD's SportsPub, then back down via the Sols Arms and that funny Youngs pub behind the Logica building.

Will post more directions closer to the day (or possibly on the morning of the day. Last year was a blast, no reasonw hy this wont be.
(Sorry for lack of Poker crawl. It was a poorly thought out idea).

Pete (Pete), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

)

Ah, that's better. Yes I expect I'll give it a go!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn. I won't be online/in town long enough to get the directions, but I'd like to go to this one, as the one last year was so fun. (met Nic for the first time, hooray!)

Could I ask you a huge favour, Pete? Could you email them to my yahoo account here? We'll be back in town by the 30th, deffo!

(Too bad about the Poker/Tarot crawl, 'twould have been ace.)

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Pete does "turning" at JD's Sports Pub = really actually ENTERING aforesaid Sports Pub?

Sarah (starry), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:20 (twenty-one years ago)

(That neighbourhood offers rather frightening "all back to mine!" possibilities that I don't really want to entertain.)

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Possibly.

Poker Tarot later.

If I remember Kate - I'll be back on THIS THREAD with the details probably on the 28th. 3pm-4pm in the Head Of Steam at Euston Station is a certainty, as will be reconvening at about 8pm at the same venue (optional Nepalese curry for hardcores).

Pete (Pete), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Nepalese Curry = num num. I went there with my Dad ages ago and it was one of my nicest South Asian food experiences evah.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be out of town on the 28th, poo. But I've written the Head of Steam in my Diary for 3pm, so hopefully I'll remember! You only really have to email me details if this changes.

HRH Queen Kate (kate), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

sold on the Nepalese curry already

stevem (blueski), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

It wasn't that different from a normal curry as far as I could tell but maybe my palate is less refined when it comes to these things.

The Prince George is fairly crap. I recommend getting out pretty swiftly.

Emma, Friday, 19 December 2003 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Nearly all the pubs we will be going to will be interesting architecturally.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)

which is of course the main thing you look for in a pub, eh Pete?

Emma, Friday, 19 December 2003 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

you can't beat a flying buttress and a pint

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:47 (twenty-one years ago)

If you're going to get pissed, might as well do it in an interesting building.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

a pub is interesting because it is a pub!

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

some of the most architecturally interesting pubs are unfortunately also the worst pubs tho! E.g. the Cock o' the North in Henleaze, Bristol. It may be one of only two completely round pubs in the UK, but it doesn't stop it being a dive!

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

but I digress, 3.00 in the Head of Steam. I heart the HoS.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

as the Chinese say, 'may you drink in interesting pubs'

stevem (blueski), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Pete's co-drinkers are so dull he has to resort to studying the pub's features. Or he spends so much time falling on his arse drunk that he has developed an interest in pub ceilings.

Emma, Friday, 19 December 2003 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

he's still convinced you have a twin sister

stevem (blueski), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Does anyone know why the Head of Steam has loads of London train paraphernalia, and one random Glasgow one (a sign from Carmyle station)? Is it just to make Carsmyle feel at home?

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure it has quite a bit of other non-London stuff in there as well, but I'm buggered if I can remember particular examples.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I was in there once. I cracked the same Carmyle joke then too. It's not very funny though, and really wasn't worth repeating here.

I'm deeply saddened that I am so bored I am reading about lots of people at the other end of the country going to the pub :(

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 19 December 2003 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

There is lots of midland paraphenalia in there.

I like interesting buildings. I like 1940's pubs, I like estate pubs, I like the interaction between the architecture and the use of a building. So sue me.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 19 December 2003 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Look, I was in there once, I wasn't paying that much attention as I was watching the rugby. I cracked a crap joke about Carmyle Steve.

It seems like a perfectly nice pub. I like pubs with things to look at in them.

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 19 December 2003 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I was there too, luckily I scarpered before you made rubbish jokes about me.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 19 December 2003 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

There are several Heads of Steam. The person who introduced me to the Euston one was from Huddersfield and I know there's one there.

MarkH (MarkH), Friday, 19 December 2003 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

we are not going to huddersfield ;)

revive, rejoice, etc tuesday pub crawl, hurrah, pity the poor sods back at work etc (also play "count the people there with .ac.uk emails")

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Thursday, 25 December 2003 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

If you can't make it to the Pub Crawl on December 30, UK ilxors feel free to come to the Night and Day in Manchester to see my band Capitol Cities on our UK tour

webcrack (music=crack), Friday, 26 December 2003 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

< /shameless self-promotion >

webcrack (music=crack), Friday, 26 December 2003 03:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm definitely still on for this. it means squeezing all my sales shopping into sunday/monday/tuesday morning, which could be tough, but i'm sure i'm up to it.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 26 December 2003 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Wild horses etc.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 26 December 2003 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

should i ring ahead?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 26 December 2003 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Following the reception of quite firmly given medical advice, I won't be able to drink much, but I will definitely be around for some of the day.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 26 December 2003 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Christmas broke Ricky T!

stevem (blueski), Friday, 26 December 2003 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

It was pre-wobs!

Moral of tale: do not book appointment with doctor on 23rd of December.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 26 December 2003 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

SO we broke Gareth AND RickyT on the 22nd, then? Warning - ILX ruins lives.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 27 December 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

um, I thought we broke you seeing as you *mysteriously disappeared*.

MarkH (MarkH), Saturday, 27 December 2003 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

What happened to Gareth after I left?

Ricardo (RickyT), Saturday, 27 December 2003 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

we went back to his place and drank some more, nattered away and listened to one of Ally's mix CDs which was pretty cool, and also some country iirc. Anna does a pretty good Deep South accent. went home about 4. i got into work about 1pm and caught gareth on AIM who had just woken up. so that was fun.

stevem (blueski), Saturday, 27 December 2003 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

bumpity bump, i understand mr baran is walking the route as i type, just to make sure all the pubs are where he thinks they are...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 29 December 2003 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

3pm pub crawls on a work day! good grief. Although I work a minute up the road from the sols arm so might see if i bump into you lot after work! Incidentally the "Positively 4th Street" bar on Hampstead Road is also quite good (if a bit poncey), and is on the way to the sols arm.

and that youngs pub is actually across the road from logica i think......

ken c (ken c), Monday, 29 December 2003 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

mr baran is walking the route as i type, just to make sure all the pubs are where he thinks they are...

this is so worse than phoning ahead to check if the downstairs part is open

stevem (blueski), Monday, 29 December 2003 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

no, there should always be more planning for a crawl than if one is only intending to go to a single pub, cf mine and tim's pre-trig brother meanderings, which were important to make sure the pubs were big enough for twenty mentalists to fit in on a saturday afternoon innit.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 29 December 2003 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Next year those will have to be bigger still if the exponential growth of Mr. Phoneahead's barnet continues.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 29 December 2003 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

don't be jealous

stevem (blueski), Monday, 29 December 2003 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't worry.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 29 December 2003 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

You did not break me on the 22nd (the spirits are strong in this one etc), but ... I am not going to be coming out. For many reasons. I am all fat after Chritsmas and most of it is booze bloat, so I am still on some mad mission to shed a bit of it and look glam on New Years Eve. (Vanity thy name is Anna) Also I have a habit of getting drunk on the 30th and mucking up New Year, and I have an embrionic cold, so I'm begging off.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 29 December 2003 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

we'll break you yet misseh

stevem (blueski), Monday, 29 December 2003 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Not tomorrow you wont Mr M.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 29 December 2003 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Hello, I did not strictly walk the route, I went past key parts of the route on a bus.

The plan is
3pm Head Of Steam
4pm Royal George(Eversholt Street)
4:45pm Prince Arthur (Eversholt Street)
5:30pm JD's Sportsbar (MorningtonCrescent)
6pm The Sols Arms (Hampstead Road)
7pm The Square Tavern (Tolmers Square)
8pmBack to The Euston Flyer - possible off-shoot for curry.

If enough people moan I may miss out the Sportsbar (though its the second most interesting pub architectutally). It is the only one not on fancyapint.

Come on Anna, you can drink slimming drinks and the exercise willdo you good. Girls could add the Light bar to the crawl.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 29 December 2003 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I shall be there at the start, and probably the end too. I'm looking forward to it.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 29 December 2003 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll probably catch up with you at the Sols.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

So watch it. Or I'll brief you all on the Sols's indiepop heritage.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm gonna be pretty busy today, filling out my tax return if nothing else, but will hopefully join you all at the Square Tavern if not the Sols

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 10:28 (twenty-one years ago)

My liver is screaming, screaming at me to stop right now. I'll probably see you in the Sports Bar if not before.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, off to the Sols Arms now, hopefully see ppl there

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

right now i'm thinking "idiot pete" for pointing out that it's nye tomorrow, though i suspect that tomorrow i'll be praising the genius baran.

i can't believe that van wilder got voted out. you are all rockist scum.

sadly i am not quite drunk enough to create "i love 12...". or to distribute paris hilton's new phone number.

cis' cookies rocked. i will be v disappointed if you aren't at our nye party tomorrow.

that goes for you too stevem.

but seriously, van wilder? have you not seen the bonus disc with all the blowjob outtakes? jeez.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

"Unfortunately, the movie's more Down to You than Animal House, opting for familiar teen romance over campus shenanigans, despite an abundance of flatulence, diarrhea, sicko sex jokes, gratuitous nudity, and one gag (involving a bulldog) that's disgusting by any standard. Keg-fueled frat-rats will surely elevate Van Wilder to semiclassic status; all others are urged to proceed with caution."

robster (robster), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I am avoiding posting for the sake of my sanity. But I'm glad you liked the cookies.

'spy kids'? 'spy kids'? RAR.

cis (cis), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

ah but numbers 2 & 3 make up for that, surely?

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Toby! We are back - just an hour or so ago - and all being well are up for it tomorrow. Watch this space...

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

cool, suzy!

right, i'm off to bed, i think i've risked waking up my flatmate enough by crashing around and listening to ruff squad v v loudly.

ps you bastards didn't second varsity blues, either. don't think i've forgotten.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i feel fine! i can't believe it.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

dude i'll come to your party but i'm never going to the cinema with you ;)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

pub crawl plus hitler anecdote dispel blues for mark s shockah!

(the anecdote will go on rfn for the delectation of all when i get back to regular computer access ie next week i guess)

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Films that London ILX clearly feels it is too good for:

Gremlins
West Side Story
The Goonies
Transformers - The Movie
Nuns On The Run

And some more as well. I think I won the award for greatest number of films vetoed. Although I might have been pushing it with Nuns On The Run.

I had a great night, one of the most enjoyable FAPs I've been to. The contents of my phone is very entertaining.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 1 January 2004 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought Nuns On The Run made it in there. i forgot to nominate Akira but it would probably have been vetoed, and Ghost In The Shell got in, hurrah - can't wait to see the list published on FT

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 January 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

...wasn't Ghost in the Shell vetoed? I seem to remember getting very upset about that.

cis (cis), Thursday, 1 January 2004 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

well i was convinced Bill & ted's Excellent Adventure got vetoed so dont ask me

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 January 2004 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

What's this? People are dissing Transformers and Bill & Ted? Geez!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 2 January 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, every film that people had heard of was getting vetoed when people realised they were in the running for the Number One spot, so something wholly obscure got in. Also, they were practically forcing us out of the pub by that time and the barman had already threatened to ram Sinker's kazoo up Carsmile Steve's bottom, so we weren't messing.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Saturday, 3 January 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

also, and crucially, the whole exercise demonstrated my short term memory problem, as on AT LEAST TWO OCCASIONS I nominated a film only to be told "We've done that one already!"

I am confused by Tom's points system. Am I alone?
