iPod and Windows 98

I'm thinking of getting an iPod but only have Windows 98. Adding the cost of upgrade from 98 to XP makes the iPod a much pricier option. Anyone know if there any ways round this?

Unless you have 98SE, your shit out of luck. Same thing happened to me. I gave up and bought a new pc to go with the ipod.

As I understand it, the part of Windows 98 that conflicts with the ipod is that it doesn't natively support firewire. If you can find a firewire card and install the drivers that come with it OK, you should be good to go.

I bought an iPod maybe two years ago together with a firewire card and managed to get it to work by using Ephpod which is far from ideal. None of the supplied software will work with Win98.
