Helen Hunt jumping out of a window in "Angel-Dusted." Scott Baio getting loaded in "Stoned" and "The Boy Who Drank Too Much." There was "My Mother is Having a Baby". Lot's of PCP, cheerleaders snorting coke, lying, cheating, foster-homes, etc. "The Wave" featured a bunch of kids that start a Nazi-like fascist party in their school...

Paranoid, instructive short films from a paranoid time, 1972-88. I loved them, and rushed home to see them. But did I pay attention to the message? Or was there just a vicarious thrill from seeing kids like me getting wasted and pregnant?

THAT WAS HELEN HUNT????????????????

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 19 December 2003 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I didn't know that about Hunt! I remember that one.

Wasn't there one where a bunch of kids tormented some other kid with WORMS?

My cousin was an extra in a couple of Afterschool Specials. They always put him in lockerroom scenes for some reason.

El Santo Claus (Kingfish), Friday, 19 December 2003 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Does anyone remember the one where Malcolm Jamal Warner committed suicide? I remember thinking it was pretty heavy stuff at the time, but it would probably be kind of lame if I tried watching it now.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 19 December 2003 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Some of them were kind of lame: "Reefer Madness" meets "A Separate Peace" seemed to be the main elements. But a couple were quite intelligent. The animated one about all the little birds that become extinct... "The Wave" was good, and maybe the best was "The Pinballs" with Kristy McNichol trying to get settled in a foster home. There's not much on TV like that today...

heh. Just like Degrassi Junior High.

El Santo Claus (Kingfish), Friday, 19 December 2003 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)
