This is the thread where we organize an actual Chicago FAP

Because Chicago is full of cool ILXers, and they never seem to want to leave the house. Is it the weather? There's Ann, who I just ran into at Simon's, and there's Jaymc, who's about the coolest guy ever, and there's oops out in the burbs, and Sarah Pedal who's also out in the burbs but not afraid of the city, and there's Diamond who's kinda MIA lately, and there are others I know whose names I have forgotten or who lurk.

So make yourself known, be counted, and let's make good use of the space between Christmas and New Years.

Or after that.

But soon.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 22 December 2003 07:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha! Kenan is back in ILE. Can't stay away, can ya? Well, I'm drunk after coming back from the Lava Lounge, where my friend Chris, who's a drifter (no, seriously) but in Chicago for a couple of weeks, just spun some records. (I think it was Kool Keith and klezmer, I can't be sure.) But you should know there are plans afoot for when @d@ml comes to town on Saturday, Dec. 27. We've been talking on this thread about that, but have made no definite plans. We'd love your presence, Kenan, I'm sure.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 22 December 2003 08:28 (twenty-one years ago)

(And I need your Nate's Challenge CD!)

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 22 December 2003 08:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll be there for whatever. But I just e-mailed you (and some other people) about something on January 2 or 3, the Friday or Saturday after New Years, because even if you have to work on the 2nd, it still feels like a 4-day weekend.

Nick and Sarah warrant their own event, obviously.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 22 December 2003 08:32 (twenty-one years ago)

(x-post)

You NEED it? 'Cause I can walk over and give it to you now, if you're awake. Can I call you?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 22 December 2003 08:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh, all in good time, my good man. All in good time.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 22 December 2003 08:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean, I'd say yes, except there's no good reason why I shouldn't be in bed RIGHT NOW, but I have this annoying habit of checking ILX before bed, regardless of what time I get home.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 22 December 2003 08:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't we all.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 22 December 2003 08:37 (twenty-one years ago)

And btw, I'm down for Jan. 2 or 3. Either one.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 22 December 2003 08:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds pretty perfect to me. No one works on the 1st, and even if you work on the 2nd, the 3 and the 4th is a weekend. No excuses there.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 22 December 2003 08:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, I think that Nick & Sarah will actually be here by then. I think they come in on the 29th, if I'm not mistaken. So perhaps they'll be interested.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 22 December 2003 08:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Someone should ask them. And buy them drinks.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 22 December 2003 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey! We'll have a "sorry you're still living amongst boxes" party!

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 22 December 2003 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the 2nd or 3rd would work for us, and would be exciting and new. Sarah doesn't start work until the 5th, and I, um, don't have a job, so we're pretty much just going to be unpacking and getting over the one hour of jet lag. Obviously, the location is up to y'all.

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 22 December 2003 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

sign me up -- either nite's good by me.

martha bayne, Monday, 22 December 2003 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I will be around afternoon/early evening actually on Sunday 28th now if anyone wants to do stuff.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 22 December 2003 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Adam, check your e-mail. I'll probably be available from around 2 pm - 7 pm tomorrow.

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 27 December 2003 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

bump?

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 28 December 2003 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

jan 2 sounds good to me. or any night (i may be out of town from the 3-6th)

todd swiss (eliti), Sunday, 28 December 2003 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

3 is better than 2. but 2 is not impossible.

bnemtusak, Wednesday, 31 December 2003 06:32 (twenty-one years ago)

but where oh where?

martha bayne, Wednesday, 31 December 2003 06:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i think 3 is fine for me too now

todd swiss (eliti), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 07:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Where? Well, we'll ask Nick and Sarah first, since they're the recent transplants, and therefore kind of the guests of honor. Or the guests of much respect, anyway. Something in Wicker Park, maybe? I'd say Danny's, but it's so dark we'd all leave still not knowing what the other one looks like.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 07:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Optimal:

close to Wicker Park (and therefore Nick and Sarah), decent, fairly cheap (which is a draw for everyone), and warm, since the Weather Channel says it's supposed to be, like, 18 that night.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 07:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Good. The 3rd is better for me, too. I'd like to suggest the California Clipper again, on Augusta and California. It's a little hike from Nick & Sarah's place (six blocks west, two blocks south), but actually no further than Danny's would be. Anyway, it's great -- the entire bar is bathed in red lights, and there's red vinyl booths, and it's a fairly good size and yet still very cozy. But of course, I'm open to other ideas, too.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 31 December 2003 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

DUDES! I am psyched. The 2nd or 3rd is fine, neither is particularly better than the other, since we don't really have anything scheduled until Sarah's job starts. I've actually been to Danny's before, and yeah, I think it's too dark and loud for our purposes. But anyplace is fine. I'll be checking on here occasionally, and Kenan has our phone no.

NA (Nick A.), Thursday, 1 January 2004 02:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, guys. Woo hoo! We're here! 3rd is best for me because I'm still sick with this head cold. Though I guess maybe just maybe I'd be all better tomorrow night.

Today we hit Myopic Books and Earwax like good Wicker Parkians. We also took a stroll around the neighborhood and saw lots of funny guard dogs.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 1 January 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Yay! I'm looking forward to it -- although I don't know if Kenan will want to hang out with me after seeing me behave like a drunk-ass fool last night. ;-)

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 1 January 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Bumpity-bump-bump-bump. (Though maybe doing so at 3 in the morning defeats the purpose.)

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 3 January 2004 09:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Not if I'm checking ILX at 8 am for some reason.
Got all y'all's emails. California Clipper is fine for us, if it's on Augusta I'm guessing we can walk from our place. I'll be a dork and check a map. Hang on.
...
Dammit, I can't find the good map book right now. But whatever. CC is fine for us. When do you want to do this thing?

NA (Nick A.), Saturday, 3 January 2004 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

9?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Saturday, 3 January 2004 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Nick, it's about 8 blocks from your place (or at least from Division and Damen) -- 6 west and 2 south.

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 3 January 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I checked the map, it's a little bit of a hike, but whatever, I can use the exercise. Or take a taxi. Is anyone coming but me, Sarah, Kenan, and jaymc?

NA (Nick A.), Saturday, 3 January 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, 9 is fine.

NA (Nick A.), Saturday, 3 January 2004 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm open to other suggestions for bars, but I have a feeling that some of the places more immediately around you (Rainbo, Gold Star) will be very crowded on a Saturday night.

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 3 January 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Todd Swiss was interested in coming, too, but we haven't heard from him in a few days.

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 3 January 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, i may be able to hit it tonight, i will updat with a final decision later

todd swiss (eliti), Saturday, 3 January 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Jessa is unconfirmed, but a definite possibility. Where are the Reader people?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Saturday, 3 January 2004 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

It's set. 9 pm at California Clipper. See you soon.

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 4 January 2004 01:23 (twenty-one years ago)

See you.

NA (Nick A.), Sunday, 4 January 2004 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i wont be able to make it, maybe next time

todd swiss (eliti), Sunday, 4 January 2004 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Awesome :)

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 4 January 2004 08:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, thanks guys. I had lots and lots of fun. That pizza pic of me is great. And yes, I am posting at 9:30 AM because I am nuts.

NA (Nick A.), Sunday, 4 January 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Damnit, my head looks like the Penguin from Batman in that first pic. NO!!!

I had fun too. See you at the show next weekend, jaymc.
