Your heroes getting honoured

I'm talking the British honours system, CBES, OBES, knighthoods.
There's been all these leaks coming out of civil service departments
about how 'fixed' and 'poltical' it is, the methods by which recipients are chosen. Well duh. The meeja are drumming it all up into a crisis which is their wont and it's tiresome. However i thought it might be an interesting time to discuss it considering these recent events:
Benjamin Zepheniah turned down his OBE because of its 'colonial' connotations
It was revealed that David Bowie turned down down a CBE, saying 'it was not for me'. Interesting considering he's been trying to be 'establishment' since the early 80s. Certainly raised my opinion of him.
And Keith Richards' strong criticism of Mick for accepting his knighthood. And don't forget Macca.

Any Comments?

Knighthoods seem pompous; Nobels seem earned.

Still, Sir Ian McLennan sounds right and proper - Sir Mick Jagger sounds stupid.

I'm watching The Filth and the Fury and it's just struck me if John Lydon was offered a knighthood he'd take it cos he loves the monarchy. (Not as an ironic 'subversive' gesture - the man's a traditionalist. NOT a criticism, just an observation)
