one year passes...
are there any remaining sub-pavement public toilets in london?

i think there is one in camden town, at the junction by the station. do you have to pay?

Last time I went in the Camden one you didn't have to pay, that was about a year or so ago. I'm pretty sure it's still there. I have seen others around the centre but I can't remember exactly where!

There's that one just by the London palladium off Argyll St.

'Palladium' with the lower case 'p' just looks wrong doesn't it?

there's one opposite liverpool st station, bishopsgate side. that's free. the ones under marble arch are free but you have to negotiate a network of wee-smelling tunnels to get there. sometimes they sell jewellery outside. there's one on broadwick st that's also free (this is the same one venga's talking about by the palladium i think). also by hyde park corner. free too. um. there must be more...

and they have celebrity conections:

the Broadwick Street one is where John Lennon was filmed for a sequence in a 'Not Only..But Also' Peter Cook/Dudley Moore programme in the 60s.

the Liverpool Street station one is where Leigh Bowery was arrested for cottaging (he wa defended by the Queen's solicitor no less, paid for by Lucian Freud)

..and by the way the Palladium ones are next to Liberty's at the top of Carnaby St, different from the Broadwick St ones (though close by)

Isn't there one at Tottenham Court Road? (passageway from the Tube station to Centre Point, I think). But does that not count? Are you only interested in the ones that you enter by descending directly from the street by a flight of steps lined by railings?

Oak (small items), Saturday, 17 December 2005 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

yea, its specifically ones direct from the street

are the ones at tottenham court road free? seems most station related ones take coins now

calderdale in the 70s (gareth), Saturday, 17 December 2005 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

I've no idea. I never use such toilets

Oak (small items), Saturday, 17 December 2005 13:39 (nineteen years ago)
