I forget my pipe at school, a run my first lighter through the wash, and I buy a new lighter merely to lose it before I get to use it. SOMEONE UP THERE IS LOOKIN OUT FOR ME, HI HO.

Perhaps God has already let you smoke way too much pot and now you face the consequences?

jewelly (jewelly), Thursday, 25 December 2003 05:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh goodness.

I think you've hit the nail on the head, so to skeap.

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 25 December 2003 05:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Or perhaps God is subtly trying to tell you that it's time to move on to the "harder stuff."

jewelly (jewelly), Thursday, 25 December 2003 05:56 (twenty-one years ago)

It could be that you've smoked too much pot

Amity (Amity), Thursday, 25 December 2003 06:15 (twenty-one years ago)

-2, Redundant

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 25 December 2003 06:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Everyone hates you now, Amity.

jewelly (jewelly), Thursday, 25 December 2003 06:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh dear. Things haven't turned out quite as I planned.

Amity (Amity), Thursday, 25 December 2003 07:27 (twenty-one years ago)

plan to be hated, it's easier (& thus more fulfilling) that way.

i feel it is appropriate to tell you all why (i have discovered) they call it college rock: college kids listen to it.

s: pavement, early Dinosaur JR, Sonic Youth, Bardo Pond, Yo La Tengo, Nirvana, The Fall, neutral milk hotel, palace++

D: Buffalo Tom, later Sebadoh, applez in stereo, meat puppets, weezer, too much smiths/too much cure {{all things in moderation))

is college rock different elsewhere?

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 25 December 2003 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

KXLU in L.A. seems to be more obscure.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 25 December 2003 09:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm not saying so much "college radio" which yeah, is alternately MUCH WEIRDER or MUCH LAMER. but really, college radio djs are people who are into music a little too much, positively or negatively. what do AVERAGE COLLEGE KIDS listen to? i guess the caveat is "average liberal arts college kids"--art kids to a lesser extent.

Back aqt my east coast college from '96-'00 it was all about Ben Folds, Dave Matthews, and No Doubt. And the biggest concert attraction there during my four years was, yes, Rusted Root.

I would like to think tastes have improved but probably not.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 25 December 2003 09:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Though actually No Doubt isn't terrible

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 25 December 2003 09:25 (twenty-one years ago)

dave matthews is quintessential college wankery fer sure.

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 25 December 2003 09:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Has someone glued two entirely separate threads together here?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 25 December 2003 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

is this the same ian johnson who hates doomie?

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 25 December 2003 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't have any feelings whatsoever on doomie.

ian johnsonnnn, Thursday, 25 December 2003 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

watch out - say his name once more and there'll be trouble.

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 25 December 2003 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Back aqt my east coast college from '96-'00 it was all about Ben Folds, Dave Matthews, and No Doubt.

The artists that are played on college radio != the artists that are most popular with college students. When I was an undergrad a group of students were complaining that our college radio station did not play top 40 stuff. Never mind that there were commercial radio stations in the area playing it.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 26 December 2003 05:19 (twenty-one years ago)

j. lu = entirely correct. but which should properly be called "college rock?" as touting the virtues of college rock (as a college student) seems in order; i was also listening to a lot more pavement last night, so that might have been the problem.

AND ON AN ENTIRELY RELEVANT NOTE: I FOUND MY LIGHTER. IT WAS INTHE COUCH. THE WORLDIS SAFE FOR DRUG ABUSE ONCE AGAIN.
