Although I have stated granary bread, I'm also partial to white door-step of late. Also, notice how only one side of the sandwich is buttered. Also also, please note sandwich must be cut not quite completely diagonal, but more a jaunty mad angle to facilitate maximum munching.

I don't make sandwiches for myself very often, but I do go to Atlanta Bread Company once or twice a month, and have figured out my perfect sandwich through much trial & error:

2 small strips of bacon, very crispy
Avocado
Red onions
Salt & pepper
Another thick slice multigrain

Basic, but delicious. I may have to start experimenting with tomatoes, though, for some reason they never really clicked with me until this year.

excellent sandwich. i would leave off the avocado (personal taste... i don't like the texture), but otherwise you're speaking my language.

also i'd go for pickled red onion (like they have at taquerias) instead of straight-up raw.

After assembly it's back in the frying pan until the bread is a greasy brown and the cheese is melted inside the sandwich.

I used a toaster oven. there was more than enough room to toast two slices at once. I'm just not comfortable with the idea.
