what does your 2004 calendar have as its theme?

i just bought an appointment calendar, and its theme is NEW YORK TIMES SUNDAY CROSSWORD PUZZLES. 52 of them, all from '97-'98 (before i subscribed, thankfully). yes i am a nerd, but at least this calendar has a dual purpose. and it started today, since this week's soon to be the first of the year! i'm going to try and hold off doing the puzzle until at least friday morning, but i might crack if i don't find something better to do, uh, tomorrow or so.

so what's on your calendar? weekly, monthly, daily are all acceptable answers here. i figure it's fun to see what other people stare at day-in-day-out as they trudge along the path of another year. fuck, 2004. i thought i'd be in a flying car by now, dude. instead i don't even have my license!!

oh wait, there are 53 puzzles, duh

maura (maura), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 04:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I have the Simpsons and one with cats.

Aja (aja), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 04:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a Marilyn Monroe one and a vintage ad one, both gifts.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 30 December 2003 04:19 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh, vintage ads! what products are advertised?

in college i had an appointment calendar that had mexican product labels as its theme -- ah, i see it's still being manufactured. so pretty!!

maura (maura), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 04:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh they're all booze ads, I collect advertisements for sketchy products like booze and cigarettes so my mom bought me the calendar for Xmas. They're both small size calendars though, not full size wall calendars. I have the 2003 one in full size, which was nice but unnecessary for my new digs I think. There was a really beautiful John Singer Sargent calendar at Barnes & Noble that I was tempted to purchase but didn't--that was awesome, some unusual picks in it.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 30 December 2003 04:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a Simpsons calender

Dante-Cubed (Sean3), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 04:33 (twenty-one years ago)

i havent purchased one for myself yet. the german techno label bpitch control had one for 2003 but i never got it. i dont think they have one this year. the one i have is from my local japanese restaurant (free with meal), and it is pictures of japanese women in traditional dress superimposed on pictures of various temples in japan. i actually like it a lot because it is totally arbitrary and impersonal; indistinct. the fact that the calendar could be hanging anywhere (a kitchen in DC, a parking garage booth in tokyo...) makes it more poignant for me and my wanderlust than anything i could have picked out for myself.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 05:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Work: Audubon Water's Edge
Home: Nova Scotia pictures

I feel like one of those Jeep ads, I stare at nice wildlife and nature scenes while I slodge through my urban life.

lyra (lyra), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 06:36 (twenty-one years ago)

domokun

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 07:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Wallace and Gromit again for me next year. I wuv them.

C J (C J), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 07:21 (twenty-one years ago)

frank lloyd wright architectual sketches. I hate buying calendars, they are all disappointing and I can't bear the thought of staring at them all year, but this one seemed inoffensive enough. We had a cool 20's french costume design one last year but there was no room to write stuff down on it which was annoying.

when I was a kid it was Tolkien calendars every year for at least six years. I were a geek.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 07:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I want but don't have yet one w/pics of "hunky" men and terribly funny jokes along the lines of "Men are like televisions... they should all come w/a mute button"

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 07:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Cats.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 08:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 08:40 (twenty-one years ago)

It was a gift, btw.

I appreciate her, um, music.
(it was also a gift)

Ste (Fuzzy), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I usually get the Redstone desk diaries, but after disappointment at last year's vague 'daring' theme this year I got the Granta one (all photos) instead.

I want one of those restaurant (free with meal) calendars for my wall.

sgs (sgs), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I got given (by accident) a yellow retriever calender from the r.s.p.c.a! I like dogs, but every month, phew!

Zen

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I got a rather classy calender with individual day dates that you tear off. It comes with 25 (I think) arty postcards that you hand-rearrange to suit your mood that month. I don't know if it'll be that great, but it's a decent idea, and ever so personalisable too!

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

For 2003, I had Hello Kitty and a very tiny Afro Ken one. This year I have "Life of the City: New York Photography" and a Vintage Ads of the 60s daily calendar, but I think I am going to using that for craft project purposes.

Oh I also have "Gardens" provided by East Coast Family Dentistry.

Huckleberry Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 30 December 2003 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

A Get Fuzzy desk calendar, also a gift and probably never to be used as a calendar.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 1 January 2004 01:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Both for xmas:
* a kitty desk calendar for me to take to my new job (from Nick)
* a Kinko's calendar my aunt made with pix of all the relatives - it would have been a lot more interesting if these weren't the same photos I've seen a million times over, but it's still a sweet gift.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 1 January 2004 01:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I just recieved an '04 calender that is one of those desk ones where you pull off each day and each page has instructions to be folded into a different paper airplane!!!! I thought it was cool.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 2 January 2004 05:01 (twenty-one years ago)

mine is a wildlife theme. so sad. i miss my mary-kate and ashley from 2003.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Friday, 2 January 2004 07:21 (twenty-one years ago)

My at-home one is a religious-themed one because I got it free from my church. Lots of lovely paintings and pictures of sculptures in it. It actually sorta impresses me, particularly because it doesn't look like some giveaway calendar and because one could also take it for an artwork-themed calendar.

I use my planner/organizer as my work/school calendar, so there's no real theme there. Hm.
