If you can remember, what is the best thing that happened to you last night?

Funniest, happiest, most unexpected, melting-most or otherwise :-)

mei (mei), Thursday, 1 January 2004 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

As I'm writing this it's New Year's day 2004, so 'last night' was New Year's eve. Oh yes. Something good must have happened to you!

mei (mei), Thursday, 1 January 2004 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

i threw up

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 January 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Dare I ask the worst thing, Stevem?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 1 January 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

The hostess of the party we attended mercifully spared me from having to eat the salmon that was the main entree. I fucking HATE salmon.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 1 January 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Did it save you from dying on some cocktail of something?
That would be quite good.

mei (mei), Thursday, 1 January 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Look, this is 'best' not 'least worst'. Alex, you were inviteted to a party. That's a good thing! There was a hostess and everything!

mei (mei), Thursday, 1 January 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I was quite pleased with not having to eat the salmon, actually. Best thing? Well, there were no unsolicited explosions or terrorism of any kind (unless of course you count the salmon, which is culinary terrorism, if you ask me).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 1 January 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

i re-discovered my love of vodka and lime

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 1 January 2004 21:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Explosions can be good. As can vodka. Da.

mei (mei), Thursday, 1 January 2004 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I had several of my oldest and dearest friends around for the night.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 1 January 2004 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

salmon is a fabulous fish!

Orbit (Orbit), Thursday, 1 January 2004 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

My real-money, highly illegal casino made me at least £5!

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 1 January 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

One of my best friends is called Richard Salmon, nickname 'Sam'.

Salmon is overated as a foodstuff. Mackerel, cod, squid, tuna, plaice, seabass and more are all better!

mei (mei), Thursday, 1 January 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

The best thing that happened to me was a cute gothette calling me a tart when I kissed her neck as we danced. Didn't stop us dancing :-)

mei (mei), Thursday, 1 January 2004 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I enjoyed yelling out "HAPPY NEW YEAR!", hearing some guys play some surprisingly beautiful euphoric music with guitars and laptop and drums and singing, consuming copious quantities of jaeger and champagne and a variety of beers and not puking, kissing wonderful girls and boys, sneaking off at a monstrous party and partaking of the sweet cheeba with the singer for one of my favorite bands and my favorite homosexual man on earth, drunkenly trekking across the late-night urbanesque Lexington tundra, seeing a man who I earlier gave jaeger shots fall down multiple times (taking Emilymv down with him), making pancakes at roughly 3 am, sometime just before sunrise finding my phone for the first time since earlier that night to find a shit ton of happy new year voicemails from people all over America and realizing the post-geographic nature of modern society, some other stuff. Memories returning in bits and pieces and all, y'know.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 1 January 2004 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

salmon is a fabulous fish!

damn right.

Jeremy "Kingfish" Salmon (Kingfish), Thursday, 1 January 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, Jeremy, Salmon tastes like pink, salty death to me. If you want to put that in your mouth, be my guest. None for me, thanks.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 1 January 2004 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

shouting "divisble by 2!" and the banging of the pots and pans were the highlights of the evening.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Thursday, 1 January 2004 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

i dont know about last night, but there is a police helicopter circling directly above my house right now, and shows no sign of leaving,

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 1 January 2004 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry, i dont think that should have gone in the 'best thing' bit

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 1 January 2004 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

where are the bodies dude?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 1 January 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

meeting a girl and whilst dancing with her having her strip down to her undies + insist i touch her boobs.

oh, and salmon is way too stinky - it's offensive.

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 1 January 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

meeting a girl and whilst dancing with her having her strip down to her undies + insist i touch her boobs.

Dyson wins. This is WAY better than not having to eat salmon.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 1 January 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

the weirdest part is it just came out of nowhere. she was supper normal (and kinda tired) all night. dances with me for, like, 5 minutes then turn to me and says: "it's just like... i just gotta take off all my cloths and then figure out what i want to do with the rest of my life"

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 1 January 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

i played an absurdly elaborate drinking game with 10 aussies and a pom. then danced to beyonce's crazy in love

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 1 January 2004 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

friendly nipple licking.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 2 January 2004 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm not going to tell you the BEST thing that happened to me last night, but drinking gin and watching the 6hour flashbacks show on C4 seeing "girls just wanna have fun", "pour some sugar on me", "ashes to ashes" and "the neverending story" on it was pretty good.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Friday, 2 January 2004 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I watched Delicatessen with my ex and drank a decent rioja and we didn't have sex so I don't feel guilty.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 2 January 2004 02:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Di, that sounds like great fun! I hope you danced.

Sadly i am less reticent than some and shall thus announce the hilight of my night was not cavorting at a friend's parents' country manor, nor the barbeque, the company of some wonderful friends and aquaintances, or even the hilarious camp-fire singalongs. It was the 2 hours of dirty, dirty tent-sex with a lithe young chap i hardly know.

petra jane (petra jane), Friday, 2 January 2004 02:26 (twenty-one years ago)

oooooooh petra you tart. ROCK!

i was dancing in my heart, does that count?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Friday, 2 January 2004 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

hmm, we'll have to ask the judges.

See, my NY Resolution to be more of a Ruthless Bitch is working already!

petra jane (petra jane), Friday, 2 January 2004 02:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i found myself lying in mud and pouring rain at approximately 12.15am, with my foot tangled in the passenger seatbelt of a friend's car. this was the result of an attempt to give chase to another friend who was sprinting across a railway bridge. i can't quite remember why, but i do remember seeing fireworks as i lay there, dazed.

the *worst* parts of the night i'm only just hearing about.

i shall never, ever celebrate on new year's eve again.

dan jonze, Friday, 2 January 2004 03:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Hearing my friend play this insane backwards remix of Inner City's "Big Fun" LOUD at the party I was at last night. My drunken soul bounced with glee. Best New Year's in years.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Friday, 2 January 2004 03:17 (twenty-one years ago)

actually i have nothing but fond memories of last night, but my fiend tells me i walked around all night shouting "life is a bleak void of perpetual despair" at random moments.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 2 January 2004 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

jess has a fiend. cool.

Kim (Kim), Friday, 2 January 2004 03:37 (twenty-one years ago)

If that refrain was being yelped by some Diva, Jess, it wld be the Drum n Bass hit of the year.

petra jane (petra jane), Friday, 2 January 2004 03:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder if it was his Yr Fiend Sean.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 2 January 2004 03:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Being upright for the countdown for the first time in recent memory.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 2 January 2004 04:07 (twenty-one years ago)

the surprise bonus for my NYE was that the dessert that came with our fancy-pants set menu dinner was my favorite ever, chocolate melt cake/pudding. yum. then went to two parties and my boy went to a different one but came to find me before too long.

not so bad, not nearly as bad as i'd expected...

colette (a2lette), Friday, 2 January 2004 04:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Dammit I wanna fiend. Can it come sugar-frosted and tasting like pink lemonade?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 2 January 2004 04:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure if you ask nicely, Jess himself will be your fiend.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 2 January 2004 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 2 January 2004 12:06 (twenty-one years ago)

My real-money, highly illegal casino made me at least £5!

THAT'S where all my money went!!!!!!!!!!! curses!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 2 January 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Only if "all your money" means about £2.50. Though you were the only person to get properly into the spirit of losing all your cash.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 2 January 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i did quite well on the blackjack, but once we're on roulettes the "throw chips on the table by random" side of me took over!

we should have a late night poker session next time so I can win my the cash back.

good party though, cheers mark!

ken c (ken c), Friday, 2 January 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i recognise the outside of that hotel. is it in wildwood?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 2 January 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

The Ents took on Saruman's evil war factory and the one on fire got put out when they smashed up the dam

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 2 January 2004 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I smoked a bunch of really good pot w/my beloved best friend, too. She wasn't too inviting w/the boobtouching tho, I guess

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 2 January 2004 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

it was really really hot and i lay around snogging my friend and sweating and splashing each other with cold water til the bed was wet but it was so hot we dried fast

hellbaby (hellbaby), Friday, 2 January 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i recognise the outside of that hotel. is it in wildwood?

joday (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 2 January 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

but my fiend tells me i walked around all night shouting "life is a bleak void of perpetual despair" at random moments.

Hahahahahaha

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 2 January 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

fiend....despair...it works on so many levels!

stevem (blueski), Friday, 2 January 2004 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I made good on my promise to smooch all the girls in sight.

Dale the Titled (cprek), Friday, 2 January 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

best thing that happened last night (ie jan 1st) = wife & self got it AWN!!!

best thing that happened new year's eve = NOTHING. EXISTED.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 2 January 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm just jealous that Jess has his own personal fiend.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 2 January 2004 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i keep him next to my personal jesus.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 2 January 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

jody you guys went to wildwood for new year's? I'm so jealous!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 2 January 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I was playing with my brass band in a club, and after midnight we said "Okay, if we started a second line (parade) down the street, would you all (the audience) come with us?" And we did, and they did. Milwaukee has never seen the like.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 2 January 2004 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Getting a nice kiss at midnight followed by much heavier kissing later on in the evening with the same lass, in the front seat of my car, parked at an empty beach along the Pacific Coast Highway.

Gear! (Gear!), Friday, 2 January 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Unlocking the hidden episode on a Transformers DVD - it was a good one, Beachcomber finds this lagoon that is really beautiful, and full of wildlife. However, in the process of the episode the Autobots and Decepticons manage to destroy as it contains a secret power source. There was a lot of pathos at the end, Beachcomber looking sad, and saying "we won" forlornly - I dunno if I woulda have got the over-riding environmental message when I was very young, as it wasn't over done.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 2 January 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, confirming that "The Breakfast Club" is a seriously boring film - I remember hating it when I saw it when I was 11, and thought that perhaps that I was just too young to appreciate it, but nope, it's a yawnfest no doubt about it. And one of the high school kids is going grey!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 2 January 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm scrapping the barrel here, you know?

jel -- (jel), Friday, 2 January 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

How did you unlock a hidden episode, Jel? Up down up down left right left right B A start?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 2 January 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

There was this quiz in the extras bit, and once I'd completed it, there was a new episode unlocked (this is on the 3rd disc of the Season 2 part 1 box set) < /geek>

jel -- (jel), Friday, 2 January 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i bought the movie (dvd) a couple days ago - now i'm currious about what else may be on it.

dyson (dyson), Friday, 2 January 2004 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Best NYE in recent memory -- I DJ'ed at this huge sold-out party in a big fancy artspace, Consolidated Works, at this thing called the Heaven & Hell Ball, and it was really more fun than I thought it was going to be and I had high hopes: I got fed, I was paid twice what I was told I was going to be, the set was only an hour and a half but went over really well, I saw most of the shows that IQU, the Decemberists, & Lifesavas played, hung out with tons of friends, and then I got laid.

During the spot-on IQU set, these rabble-rousers who call themselves DJs On Strike took over the show, wearing "grunge" costumes including flannel and fake beards, they pretended to kidnap Kento and whatserface, and started a pit to their awesome electro remakes of "Lithium" and "Smells Like" -- it was very scripted but felt spontaneous, and it was weirdly elaborate, and amazing...

yetimike (McGonigal), Friday, 2 January 2004 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

getting ridiculously fucked up at my friend dan's place.
or perhaps the guy in the bookstore who started talking to us about space elevators, scientology, mars exploration and eastern european science fiction.
