my head is full of snot,
my joints all a throb
while my temp goes hot --
and there is snow outside
as i try to decide
between bad sitcoms
and other ticking bombs.

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 2 January 2004 07:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i sit in my igloo
munching seal blubber;
Hoping that your nose
doesn't run and flubber
Do recover!

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 2 January 2004 09:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Thou shalt not be
Locked up in that igloo of yours
Keep your spirit free
Unlock your inner fortress's doors

It's time for me to go
And face my time of darkness once more
And toss to and fro
As nightmares chill me to the core.

Good night!

Tenacious Dee (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 2 January 2004 09:55 (twenty-one years ago)

do not go gentle into that Texas night,
Dee of the restless slumber.
i will depart the icy tundra
for warmer climes, bringing with me
a lullaby.

i'll just leave it on the doorstep.
don't mind the seal bits, if any,
my snowshoes were sticky.

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 2 January 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

bactrim
and diet coke
reluctant companions
as i mope
full of one and out of the other
i blow my nose
and raise the covers
i wish that someone here
would deliver
chicken soup
while i blither

back to work after the flu,
a crush of questions and wrath
as i fumble through the math
turning only the color blue.

jack cole (jackcole), Saturday, 3 January 2004 03:31 (twenty-one years ago)

don't turn blue!
what would we do?
it would
the ending be
of your sparkly
poetry!

snot droplets in the breeze,
a tender phlegmy mist

The rust is removed with a sip

dissolving all internal organs
leaving all dazed and stunned

The Infomercial - All Hail Tom Vo

Rapt I sit,
with vague inattention;
blues of Hawaii beam and flicker
an electron gun is what i had
for dinner

It crept in slow,
after the late show;
invaded my real estate
with a pitch
for its own.

All hail;
leis and interest rates,
bikini mortgages.
The Gene Scott of property, arcane
in his knowledge; holds secrets in his hand
but he'll sell them for
a dollar.

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 4 January 2004 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

if you do not give me
a million dollars now
i will shut down this show
and never tell you of
the magnetic masons,
the tunnels down below
or my lovely horses.

jack cole (jackcole), Sunday, 4 January 2004 09:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Eusebius knew
how to put a show together;
At the Council of Nicea,
he told the others of his feather.

But on the board, interrupted,
scribbles not what Nag Hammadi erupted,
that far before the Templars
and after Nostradamus,
somewhere deep in Glendale,
the Masons were upon us--
and here the series' fate was sealed;
and on The Island
the secrets of real estate
were veiled.

though it is quite traffick-y
a rocket launcher points,

who make the parking yucky
but here i rest
in tranquility
on Long Beach,
by the sea

humping by the sea

sod off,
ignoble twat!
do not sully
this thread so lovely

you are inane,
your couplet is lame
and your handle's
so dumb
i could vomit.

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 5 January 2004 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Orbit, jack cole is a friend of mine from years ago. I was only joking/being friendly cos I haven't seen him online in a while. Why are you catching such feelings off me? Man up already.

The Thinking Man's Paris Hilton (DarrenK), Monday, 5 January 2004 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

you say we are gay
and the thread you dismay;

i've not seen your name
before, here
for shame!
And yet you answer,
when you should
play
the game.

'tis well-established,
and absent of malice
but fuck with it, Sir
and you'll pay.

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 5 January 2004 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought the 'ur all gay' thing was a well-established ironic meme here. You're a sensitive little bitch. Make me 'pay'. What, are you going to sneer me to death?

The Thinking Man's Paris Hilton (DarrenK), Monday, 5 January 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

And sorry you haven't seen me before, I forgot this is 'your turf' and I have to make friends with people before being hyperbolic in front of them.

The Thinking Man's Paris Hilton (DarrenK), Monday, 5 January 2004 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

away, you cur!
have you no activity
more compelling than this
inanity?

and if jack cole
were your friend,
you would not put end
to this thread of poems
that he sent.

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 5 January 2004 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

jack, are you hanging out with ravers?

The Thinking Man's Paris Hilton (DarrenK), Monday, 5 January 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

ha ha ha, not yet, sir coq!!! did i email you back? part one of your piece is up (and it was quite excellent). now where did i put my floppy cat in the hat hat? ;-)

On the glowing box
is a television vision
in glowering closeups
females mantises cavort
forelegs hooked and crooked
as outside calipers
cropping tiny heads from
torn necks of mantis males
eaten as interim sex treats
with compound eyes
like little moonpies
that cannot do not look away
and the manatees weep
as they always weep
when the camera is on

The bears have broken
into my internet cabin,
which I thought was
safe nestled in the woods,
and tore the shit
out of everything.
I did not provoke them
but came they did
tear off all of my lids
unable to even read
or remember my deeds.

in an alternate universe
you ignore the bears;
and glibly leave trash in the driveway,
dare them to rip it asunder.

you site inside, beside a fire
sipping cognac;
secure in the truth.
i have been there, too.

darragh.mac (darragh.mac), Saturday, 30 October 2004 00:28 (twenty years ago)

Shock, disbelief, complete amazement --
Gorgeous flora broke through the pavement!
Once, before, a lifetime ago
Amidst the gray canvas did God's hands sow
Radiant pansies and daisies and mums
Scattered to the rhythm of distant drums
And watered by an alien child
Who stopped to see gardens so elegantly styled
Surrounding her miniscule paradise --
Fragrant wonders, they all smelled so nice!
A sight to behold, the child did agree,
With elegant benches laid out romantically
Dotting the graceful and well thought-out path.
A pool large enough for a manatee's bath.
The small intruder skipped happily away
She'll be bedazzled again, some other day.

bumping this in case people missed it :(

john wahey (NickB), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 13:19 (ten years ago)

i was really broken up about this last night. i could not handle it. though "jack" had not been a very active ILX poster in years, we kept in touch on facebook and talked a lot about music and cats and the like. he was one of the most supportive people when i was doing radio -- would listen if he was around and always be so kind. this is really terrible and hard. he was not terribly old.

ian, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 14:33 (ten years ago)

can't say i really engaged with him at all here, but he always seemed to be a clever and witty poster with great taste in music. do you know what happened to him?

john wahey (NickB), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 14:48 (ten years ago)

I remember Martin Skidmore asking Jack Cole, many years ago, somewhere on here, if he took his name from the great cartoonist Jack Cole. Just a funny little interaction between two ILXORS who are now both gone. Sad.

Fond memories of visiting DDM in Portland to see go eat, drink beer, see shows & shop at Powell's, as well as his book buying visit jaunts down to Northern California.

One especially epic evening in SF started at La Taqueria and ended at a sublimely bombastic two+ hour show by The Dead C (circa New Electric Music/The Damned) at Club Galia (now a Cajun dance club). They had to pull the plug on them to get them to stop playing.

Totally gutted by this, but pausing to remember the good times. Rest in peace my friend.
