I ended my buying-vintage-keyboards-off-of-Ebay addiction approximately 2 years ago with the purchase of a Roland JX-3P synth (probably my favorite that I own) and have not bidded on anything since. I'm afraid what will happen once those floodgates are brought back down again.

x-post shit yeah

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 2 January 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

it's worked out pretty great! pretty durable-seeming and the footage I've gotten back from it has been pretty good!

ps are you ever on aim any more?

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 2 January 2004 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i hate change and only purchase one type of shoes, the black sole Docs that pass for dress shoes. They were just discontinued which freaked me out because having to find a different type of shoe after wearing the same one for four years is more stress and worry than I need. Luckily, all the discontinued ones wound up inthe hands of ebay sellers so I got one pair for less than half price, brand new. Heavenly day!

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Friday, 2 January 2004 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

RE: Sankyo. Just out of curiosity, how much would film + developing cost for one of those things?

may pang (maypang), Friday, 2 January 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

film is between $10-$20CAD for 50 feet, development is about $10CAD.

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 2 January 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice. And how much time does 50 feet give you?

may pang (maypang), Friday, 2 January 2004 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

About 2.5/3 minutes.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 2 January 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Someone who has the patience to do frames to feet will be able to give you a more accurate answer.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 2 January 2004 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

2.5-3 minutes, I think? maybe it's 3.5... I always forget.

I can let you know of some good labs if you're interested.

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 2 January 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry to drag this off-topic, but don't Kodak do free processing in Canada/US? In the UK, I bought cartridges with processing (there was a pre-paid envelope for that purpose), and then just sent them off. It was cheap (ish), too.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 2 January 2004 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

that's true, you can buy some kodak film with developing included (they send it to switzerland!) but it's only the colour stuff, kodachrome 40 I think

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 2 January 2004 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

(that's around $25CAD I think)

Mark G, Monday, 21 May 2007 09:06 (eighteen years ago)

three months pass...

I won White Stripes 'White Blood Cells' for £2.50. Advertised as mint condition.

What I received was :

1)A CD of 'Get Behind Me Satan' that is so scratched that it looks as if it has been rubbed with coarse sandpaper for at least 5 days.

2) The artwork for 'White Blood Cells' - torn and creased.

3) The most battered jewel case that I have ever seen. When I opened it it fell into about 10 pieces.

OK, the latter isn't a big deal and could have occurred in the post, but the others are annoying and stupid.

I send a message to the vendor, saying (politely) that I'm disappointed and want either a refund or the right CD, but NOT if it's in the same condition as the one he sent.

His response (cut and pasted directly from his message):

thars terrible,whats going on,iv,e been away for a few days,my daughter was looking after things this end,she wont do again keep the item do as you please with it il,e refund you now and leave excellent feedback very sorry.

Polite, but for some reason makes me irate. And I don't WANT his fucking 'excellent feedback'.

Nevertheless I send another polite response to say thanks, but I'd prefer the right CD if it's in good condition.

His response :

it was actually my daughters,ive asked and she did,nt know it was misplased that is the best i can do im,e very sorry

It's the slightly grovelly tone maybe, or possibly the way that he's passing the buck to his daughter, but either way I'd like to kick him. Except that he'd insist that it was his daughter who should be kicked.

How can anyone (and his daughter) be so fucking stupid as to mess up such a simple transaction?

Filey Camp, Thursday, 23 August 2007 13:41 (seventeen years ago)

Belately I've decided that I probably like WS, probably something to do with enjoying the Raconteurs album so much, and you can easily pick up the albums for a couple of quid.

It's not that I care about not getting the CD - it's just the whole thing is so moronic and hapless...

'do as you please with it'

I'd like to ram it up his arse.

He's giving you your money back and you got a free coaster out of it. So quit whining.

I've been selling a bunch of these little 'Harmony Kingdom' figurines I found - opening them up to check for flaws and re-closing isn't feasible because of the way they're packaged. Four out of sixty or seventy have had chips or small pieces broken off, so I just immediately refund their Paypal fee and tell them to keep the thing. I lose shipping and $.70 to Ebay each time, but since it's basically free money in the first place, I'll survive.

milo z, Thursday, 23 August 2007 19:20 (seventeen years ago)

All White Stripes CDs look alike.

this isn't true especially considering that the White Blood Cells CD has no text or images on it of any kind and is just plain and pure white. It would be totally unidentifiable if its not in the right case.

I was originally going as a mad man, and was going to wear the straitjacket and a white wig, with the shutter shades as an optional twist.

Then I found out it was Alice in Wonderland-themed, so I bought the topper to turn it into an edgy take on the Mad Hatter. I think the shutter shades might have to go.
