I'm glad my parents divorced. In fact, I have often wished my dad would divorce again! (ha ha, I'm so mean to the evil step-mother). When my parents were together, it was just night after night of horrible arguments. I'm not saying the divorce wasn't painful - I only realize its importance in retrospect.

― gff, Monday, 5 November 2007 04:21 (seventeen years ago)
xps
no, just the woman and her close friends, i don't think the ex-hubby will be throwing one, but i probably wouldn't be invited to his anyway.

Miss Manners says this is in bad taste. I can see how her opinion would be influenced given the mere existence of "The First Wives' Club."
Not hating on enjoying them tho.

my friend was minutes away from beginning a three-way with the guest of honor at one of these when her 13 year old daughter walked in the room asking what was going on.
he got so sick that he left the party entirely.

we went out to dinner with my dad when my parents' divorce came through, but it wasn't so much a celebration as drawing a line under the whole sorry mess.

I was married once before skot, to a guy i randomly called a cockfarmer on this space. Tonight I was looking at an old bag of photos/memorabilia. Found our divorce announcement. We had colour copies made of a Barbara Kruger http://www.barbarakruger.com/art/tell_us.gif and on the back we wrote something about peacefully going our separate ways. It was a sneaky trick of mine cuz he was dutch and took the "tell us something we don't know" statement at face value, whereas I thought it meant kind of like, "duh... we didn't get along and everyone could see it." We chose the eyeball picture too cuz we felt very exposed.

I was driving by the local laundromat and saw a woman getting into a car that was decorated all over with "JUST DIVORCED", "FREE AT LAST" etc in paint-pen, with streamers and cans hanging off the back, a la a wedding car. I kind of liked it...I grew up thinking divorce was such a horrible thing, but to see it celebrated like that made me feel kind of happy for the girl, so I guess hooray for her. Kinda weird though.

Well one time I was buying sausages at the local butcher when a woman in a wedding dress strolled into the store and handed me a camera. "I got married 10 years ago today and I've been divorced for 8. I thought I might as well get some use out of this dress." She posed for some photos and then buggered off.
