just how much hair can one cat shed in a minute? ( when patting / brushing makes no difference )

ok so we are 'cat-sitting' a wonderful cat named Jackson. he is really cool and has settled in well, even being super-patient with my son's delighted patting etc.
But he sheds hair like nothing I have ever seen before! I have had cats in my home, almost all my life was spent with cats n dogs around but this guy is amazing!
I just had him on my lap now, for no more than 3o seconds. he left, and I now have a PILE of cat fur on my lap, the size of a small nation!
I pat him, brush him, but still he leaves these masses of hair everywhere!
what can I do?

You could try vacuuming the cat. Or varnishing it.

haha I did consider spraying him with hairspray but I have none on hand, then a 'no 1' came to mind, but that would be mean.
varnishing......hmmmmmmmmm.....you may have hit the jackpot there CJ.
he can then stand in the same position forever, and I will just lift him in and out of the door when i think he needs to go do his thing.

they shed an infinite amount of hair. they grow it back at the rate it is shed, so, you could conceivably pet or brush the cat for a day, and it would still not be any less hairy, though your lap/couch/duvet will be incomprehensibly filthy with hair. It is a mystery.
