while we are at it, I have for some time thought " Broken Wings" by Mr. Mister would make a great national anthem. just imagine it played by a marching band, or sung by a choir, or Roseanne Barr...It is a moving, stirring song of magesty and valour. any other suggestions?

Something short and uptempo. The current US anthem (and most other country's anthems as well) are just so plodding. They're all like the Baby Elephant Walk.

"i'd like to hear the 'star spangled banner' with kind of a reggae feel."

As Billy Connolly once said, the national anthem of the United Kingdom should be replaced with the theme from the Archers.

I know what the new national anthem for the U.S. can be! "God Bless The USA" by Lee Greenwood!

Sing it proud! "And I'm proud to be an American 'cause at least I know I'm free!"

If it were put to a vote, that (or something just like it) would surely win.

*mutters something about most people not getting the difference between patriotism and annoying overpatriotism*

The star wars theme could be played sad-like during periods of national mourning.
