TS: Unicameral vs. Bicameral Legislative Bodies

I'm of two minds on this. Unicameral seems so much more democratic and responsive, but bicameral bodies can stop or water down really bad ideas before they do much harm. Some days it is just so hard living under a reactionary, neo-fascist regime that a Senate seems like a good idea.

I like bicameral, seeing that checks and balances of a legislature should have checks and balances on themselves. Where's the Nebraskans at? They know more about this than I do.

You need to put retired politicians somewhere, why not the senate?

We Nebraskans just don't like politicians much, so we have half as many of them as everyone else, and pay them virtually nothing. (They make $12,000 per year.) The legislative sessions are also quite short. 3-4 months or so, if I recall. Of course, there ain't much to do here. Oh yeah, they are also officially "non-partisan" but anyone paying attention (this really does not include me) knows which 2 or 3 of them are "D"s. The vast majority are "R"s of course.

It's very hard to work out how second chambers should be elected. Our one is a bit of a joke, but they did recently successfully cause the Government to rethink a piece of completely stupid legislation they were trying to rush through, so maybe it does serve a purpose.

Something tells me that the utility of having a US Senate will be sorely tested in 2025.
