Exactly how safe are microwaves?

When I reach inside to get whatever I've nuked, my hand gets an uncomfortably tingling sensation that dissipates after I've taken it out. Hopefully it's just a psychosomatic reaction because I've never noticed it before wondering on this very subject, but is there errant radiation flouncing around after the microwave's done?

If there is, yr microwave's surely broken! I'd say its probably psychosomatic but really, be careful.

Alternately, put forks in it and watch what happens!

Also, if your hair and skin start falling off in great clumps, its probably time to see a doctor.

Or post pictures on the Internet and make people pay to see them!

I have this too (if by "microwave" you mean "bum's ass.")

Why do I feel like we should be standing on stage with straw boater hats and canes?

"I say I say, my dog has no nose!"
"So your microwave's broken too, then!"

Dan, you truly shouldn't reveal ALL your secrets.

Seriously, I wouldn't stand in front of the microwave while nuking the food if you plan to have kids someday, but by itself, the micro is safe enough.

When I was a little kid, my rich uncle had one of the first - the Amana Radar Range, which had a warning not to operate with the door open. My sister dared me to stick my hand inside; I still remember the horror: pain, electrocution, boiling blood, all of it. And you should see my mutant offspring... it's like a Lovecraft tale.

My friend had some kind of gadget that could detect radioactiveness (or somesuch) in the air. He switched on the microwave, stood 8 feet away and it went right off the dial. Terrifying.

hold a fluorescent globe up to the microwave. if it lights up, you're in trouble. for further amusement, put one in the microwave and see what happens. by the way, please don't actually do this.

You may be experiencing the potentially hazardous forms of radiant energy known as "electricity," or "heat."
