Im in love with this show. The magically half filled rum n coke always in Julian's hand, the car that is constantly loosing doors, Freedom 35, Jonnovision as a pornstar/rapper, grade 10 diplomas, Bubbles love of welding and the fact its just about spot on Musquodoboit.

So, fucking talk to me. Is it fucking classic or a hunk of fucking crap eh?

Im not sure it could ever be shown in America, except maybe on HBO.
Imagine a live action South Park set in Nova Scotia.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 05:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Good for the first two seasons then I stopped laughing. I don't know if it's because I got tired of the joke or it just jumped the shark in general. Either way, I just can't get into the new eps at all. Not even Cory and Trevor help save things. Not even Cory and Trevor..

may pang (maypang), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 05:14 (twenty-one years ago)

fucking corey and Trevor always fucking things up.
They are stupid, always getting in trouble with the law.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 05:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish they still looked like dirtbags instead of ironic indie hipsters or something.

may pang (maypang), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 05:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Could it be indie hipsters are looking more like dirtbags. They're still selling trucker hats on Queen West for cyssakes.

But now you mention it, Julian has cleaned up his act even if he still has that rum and coke glued to his hand.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 7 January 2004 05:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I also miss that little girl that Ricky used to talk to, and y'know.. teach important shit, like street hockey and fixing bikes and stuff.

Without her the show loses something.

Reno 9-11 is becoming my new TPB. It's on Comedy on Sundays now. Check it out.

A dope trailer is no place for a kitty!

You are Julian!
JULIAN has just finished his third stint in the
joint and is determined to go straight. 18
months of hard time has left Julian wiser, full
of resolve for the future and completely
rehabilitated. He's considering a couple of
career options, like maybe going on to
community college to become an electrician or a
meat cutter or maybe getting into television
and radio broadcasting. Julian's no recidivist
punk. And to prove he's serious this time,
Julian has hired a documentary crew to follow
his every waking move.

The only thing standing in the way of Julian's
success is his lifelong pal, Ricky. Ricky is
everything that Julian is not: dim, reckless,
and irresponsible. He's also the one
responsible for Julian's recent
"holiday". With a best friend like
Ricky, who needs a drug habit or a teenaged
son?

Kinda makes you wonder how far Julian could have
gone in life if Ricky wasn't riding on his
back.

As if growing up in the park wasn't hard enough:
found under a trailer and adopted by Levi and
Desiree, no one knows where Julian came from or
who his parents are. Maybe it was for the
best-Levi and Des taught him some important
lessons about responsibility, about taking care
of others, and facing up to your problems.
Things come in handy for dealing with a guy
like Ricky.

I just discovered this show through a friend's canadian girlfriend. I've seen the first 2 episodes and one from season 4 (I beleive - the one where j-roc gets caught masturbating and ripping off another rapper)

The rum & coke in julian's hand - YES! - I saw one episode of season 4 where it looks like the topless park attendant is now also sporting a similar drink at all times.

I say classic so far. Hopefully it'll last....

The only downside so far is that my UK DVD player can't play canadian DVDs so I can't borrow them. As a result I'm only getting one episode about every 2 weeks.

love this show and sad it's over but 'the drunk and on drugs happy funtime hour' has been picked up for six episodes.

shall see.

I found out that this show is coming on a direct tv channel - 101 network. Boy I'm glad I'm watching it though. The show comes in widescreen and the image is pretty good despite the fact that the cameraman makes the show feel like a student film. The trailer dudes talk to the camera every once in a while like "the office". I don't know when this show first aired but that's definitely sort of ahead of it's time for a Canadian sitcom. I love how there isn't really straight up jokes on this show. It's just funny situations and personalities and stuff

CaptainLorax, Monday, 19 April 2010 04:14 (fifteen years ago)

fuckin love this show. agree it's not lol-a-minute - you gotta bond some with the characters. best seasons are when lahey is drunk. "a pandemic of shiterpillars"

Yeah it took me a while to get this show. Been a while since I've seen it but anyway its charm has a way of growin if you let it.

fat pavlova slapping your tender mouth (electricsound), Monday, 19 April 2010 23:25 (fifteen years ago)

Bubbles continues to amaze me. First, finding out that people think he is the smart guy. Second, the first time I saw him smoke pot was sort of when J-Rock and dudes are passing a joint in the background when the main characters are talking. Third, when he is the getaway driver and ends up pretending to be a farmer (he was freaking out and he tells the cows to eat it in a deep paniced voice)... That's just the top 3 off my memory right now

Finally watching the first season. This thing had quite the parallel evolution to Reno 911, to the point where I'm disappointed to where they didn't do a cross-over

Watched this for the first time this summer. Had just moved to canada, girlfriend and i were both unemployed, and started smoking weed again after about ten years. It was perfect viewing before bedtime. Jim Lahey kills me.

This one, e.g.:

"He was pulling his goalie!" Ha! Oh, Bubbles.

Also, has anyone seen the Nardwuar vs Lamar interview when Nardwuar asks him if he knows J Rock from TPB? Haha. It would've been awesome if he did.

three weeks pass...

Been binging on TPB recently on Netflix after friends raving about it years ago. Season 6 my favourite so far, currently on 7. Took a while to warm to any of the characters, but Bubbles is my favourite now.

michaellambert, Thursday, 7 January 2016 22:49 (nine years ago)

watched it when it was originally aired on showcase and quite enjoyed it

quality has gone down of late though

this and corner gas during my uni days were good times

F♯ A♯ (∞), Thursday, 7 January 2016 23:33 (nine years ago)

I think that mike clattenburg isn't involved in the Netflix seasons of the show, and that his absence is notable (he's the creator, main writer, director, executive producer of the show, can't help but feel it's not a coincidence that him stepping back from it has had a negative impact).

Cuombas (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 7 January 2016 23:37 (nine years ago)

yeah, definitely. some of his work on 22 minutes is quality stuff
