Use the backup, you do have a back up right?

Jarlr'mai (jarlrmai), Thursday, 8 January 2004 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Please help me. I'll tell you my problem, and then if you guys can help (the IT department won't be helping me too soon) then I'd appreciate it.

I tried to set up some passwords and things, so that different people could get at different tables and queries and such. After playing in the wizard for a while (Tools/Security/User-Level Security Wizard) I wanted out and decided nto to bother. However, instead of clicking Cancel, I clicked Finish, and it promptly chucked me out of the database and won't let me in! It tells me to get an Administrator or the person who cerated the database to let me in, but since I'm both that doesn't help me much. Is there a way otu apart from going for the backup (which will lose several days worth of data, and I want to avoid that if I can).

Any ideas?

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 8 January 2004 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

The backup will be a few days old, and I have to crawl to IT to help me, and they arn't the most helpful chaps in the world. I havn't told my boss yet, and I can probably wing it, but if theres a way to turn off the protection then I would prefer it. Anyone know any good h8ck1ng tools I might use? Fair means or foul, I gotta get this sorted.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 8 January 2004 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Hold on Johnney I'll post this elsewhere and see if any of the IT spods can answer!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 8 January 2004 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Cheers Sarah. I would try that myself, but I have idea where is good, where is bad etc. I figures my old ILX friends would help me out, won't you guys?

Guys . . .

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 8 January 2004 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

so does it now ask you for a password to get in? did you specify a password? Have you tried username: Admin and a blank password?

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 8 January 2004 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

You must have accidentally changed the password I would imagine. Have you tried logging in as someone else?

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 8 January 2004 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

also, what version of access (97? 2000? xp?)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 8 January 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been given these URLS:

http://dbforums.com/arch/110/2002/8/479076

http://www.vb123.com/toolshed/03_map/accesspasswords.htm

They don't mean much to me but hope they help!

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 8 January 2004 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Ken, I'm using Access 2000. It doesn't even ask me for a password - just says "You do not have the necessary permissions to use the 'F:\Contract Management\Data Reconciliation Team\D0004 database.mdb' object. Have your system administrator or the person who created this object establish the appropriate permissions for you."

Cheers for the links Sarah - however, the don't seem to be much good either. The forum one isn't applicable, and damn IT won't let me get to the other one!

Shittus maximus.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 8 January 2004 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

It will have created a MDW file for Workgroup permissions, try this file.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 8 January 2004 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

johnny b.. also, it should have created a backup copy of the unsecured database called .bak (usually is whatever your database file is called)

try searching for it!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 8 January 2004 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry it's taken out bits of my last message

johnny b.. also, it should have created a backup copy of the unsecured database called something.bak (usually the something is whatever your database file is called)
try searching for it!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 8 January 2004 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

then all you have to do is rename it to whatever.mdb and open it again!

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 8 January 2004 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay! Yay! Yay! It worked!

Ken, I kiss you. You've made a very anxious user very happy indeed.

Last night an ILXor saved my life etc.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 8 January 2004 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)
