Not the business. Not the glamour. Not the models: just design. Is there anything out there worth checking just for the creative value? Name names!

I'm sorry. What?

Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons is always 'creative', in a sense

I just wanted to know if there are designers whose work you appreciate for its inventiveness as opposed to designer that produce clothes that could fit your style. In a way I'm asking if ever happened to you to look at fashion in the same way you can look at architecture: liking Frank Lloyd Wright without wanting to live in the Guggenheim Museum.

francesco, Thursday, 8 January 2004 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

wanting to live in the guggenheim is jsut plain crazy.

you can't divorce the object from it's usage. The guggenheim is a great museum but would make a crap house. However, take one of lloyd wright's houses and judge whether you'd want to live in those. Similarly with fashion you can't divorce the object from the usage.

As you may see I take a very modernist utilitarian approach to things. Coming from this angle will someone buy me an Issey Miyake suit?

i wholeheartedly disagree with this.

Balenciaga is the master, the mac, the best in taste. I'm talking about the designer, not the current line.

Thuyskens at Rochas? I love it. I would wear it too, if that were possible.

Hussein Chalayan's stuff is always fucking weird. It was weirder and cooler a few years ago though.

i agree - his menswear is v good - i wish i could afford it.

i wish more people would try to operate outside of the fashion system, especially the idea of seasonal collections...

virgil abloh

this is the third post on ilx to feature the name "virgil abloh". the first post refers to his use of "scare quotes", the second is a schedule of youtube streaming times for coachella 2019 in which he's included. is there anything left to say?
