ipod ruminations at random

yes, i could certainly google a couple of them, but i prefer the free-form opinion collection ilx offers.

1) i have ipod for pc, currently using musicmatch. will i HAVE to uninstall musicmatch if i want to switch to itunes? what are the advantages of itunes over musicmatch? does itunes have all the same features of musicmatch, and more?
2) i've got a couple of tracks (and one entire album! grrrrr!) that i can. not. REMOVE. no matter what i do. stuck like glue. why? and how to fix it? will itunes make it all better? and no, restoring my ipod to its original naked state and starting from scratch is really not a plausible option as......
3) i do not have room on my pc to back up all the files. aome nights i wake up in a sweaty panic at the thought of having to rip all those CDs yet again, and correct all tags that are wrong, and wait for my ancient pc to load them on the ipod. while i grow old. so i can get a decent night's rest, what is the best way to back up those files?
4) does anyone use the backlight full-time? i usually leave it off for battery considerations, but in moments of hedonism i turn it on and leave it that way.
5) when oh when will we have ipod-to-ipod file sharing? i would guess NEVER, because of the legal poop-pile that would undoubtedly squash such a phenomenon.

thank you for your time.

1) no, but iTunes will take over communicating with the iPod, also unless you tell it otherwise, iTunes will move all you music into its own hierarchical folder structure. iTunes is considered the ultimate in music playback applications, the same features and more as music match.

2) No idea with this one. Have you tried using something like Anapod explorer, iTunes may also fix this.

3) if you have a cd burner, burn your mp3s to cd as data rather than audio. a 10Gb iPod will take 15 CDRs to back up

4) No, I hardly use it at all, if its dark and I need to change tracks I stand under the light.

5) Never, well maybe Rendezvous wifi sharing but playback only sharing and no file trading until someone hacks it, but definitely not soon.

I used MusicMatch for the first week that i had my iPod, and it screwed it up and stuff. then iTunes came out for windows and i was saved! i'd say use iTunes, 1) compatibility sake, because if they add something new, you'll be the first to get it, and 2) because it's better. as for backlight, only for coolness purposes. there's almost never pitch-black.

if someone manages to create a direct file sharing system, it'll be patched out of existance faster than you can imagine. sadly.

also, I have found this utility: http://www.kennettnet.co.uk/software/podutil.php
to be completely indispensible. It lets you copy stuff out of your iPod to other computers.

four years pass...

Just went from "Wouldn't It Be Nice" by the Beach Boys to "Caroline No" by They Might Be Giants on Shuffle. This isn't random.
