is this a jab at 'ethan arguments'?

ethan, Sunday, 14 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

can we get cliches to contradict each other?

'Haste makes waste' YET...

Tracer Hand, Sunday, 14 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

thats the thing about cliches, theres always a converse. Haste does make waste, yet he who hesitates is lost.

Geoff, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I only like you as a friend. With friends like this, who needs enemies?

suzy, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

at the end of the day a cliche has to give 110% effort or it just isn't at the races, especially early doors, Ron.

A friend in need is a friend indeed should actually be : A friend in need is a pain in the arse.

Or more realistically, someone who is a firend to you when youi are in need, is a friend indeed. No?

Favourite newspaper silly season cliches (not proverbs as we seem to be batting around) is the woman who gives birth on a placne having not previously been aware that she is pregnant. Every summer regular as clockwork this one rocks up.

Pete, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

dude, it's "a friend with weed is a friend indeed" .

fritz, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pete, the 'in need' part is meant to refer to you, not the friend. It already means what you think it should. It's just some kind of crazy antiquated phrasing or sumfin.

Kim, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Are you sure Kim? I always assumed the proverb was quite a nasty little one, i.e. friends who want something off you will always be more friendly.

Blairites don't see much value in the past / Welsh speakers want to live in the past.
