Oprah Magazine: What Other Celebs Could Do One?

I fell asleep last night reading my mum's back issues of Oprah Magazine (more on that another time) and had this bizarre dream about Thom Yorke Magazine.

Apart from the disturbing aspect that it read so obviously like ILX threads, it was very amusing. Articles about how to increase your paranoia and angst by dwelling on current events. Achieving inner unbalance. How to communicate more ineffectively by cloaking everything you want to say in more and more layers of symbolism.

What other celebrities should have their own dedicated lifestyle magazines, and what would they be like?

(You can also talk about Oprah Magazine if you so wish, but I don't really see much point.)

(It's funny because the first Oprah Magazine, I read, I thought "Wow, this is great!" and then the second one was a bit "Erm, this is getting a bit repetative" and then the third one I couldn't finish because it was getting obvious to the point of stupid, not to mention totally hypocritical - why have a magazine aimed at raising women's self esteem and promoting health and exercise, but then have nothing but stick insect women in all the ads?)

I wish I could remember the article that made me really think that either Thom Yorke was on ILX, or that he *was* ILX. It was something about controlling your inner troll, or releasing your inner troll. Get out of my archetypes, pop culture figures!

Thom Yorke magazine is the best idea I have ever heard.

Bez magazine would be fun, if it was in the style of his "Top Tips from Bez" segment on the 11 O'Clock show. "Today, we're going to grow cress"

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I still need to read Bez's book, but I imagine his magazine would be great! Comparison shopping for maracas and crack.

The male equivalent of Oprah would be Hornby, advice for middle-aged balding neurotic blokes, with pessimistic slightly bitter articles pointing out things to regret in your life. Contributers would include Will Self and John Peel.

Outkast magazine with double/flip covers!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Hornby's mag's contributers - half the men on this board! Tee hee! That would read more like ILX Magazine than Thom Yorke Magazine did!

Kilroy Magazine featuring articles on beastly foreigners and artificial tanning. Every headline ends with a question mark.

This thread has enormous potential for anyone with access to Photoshop.

Waaaahhh! This computer has been reformated since it was mine, and the photoshop has been wiped!

Rumsfeld: Your weekly digest of the insane right

I'd say Momus magazine, but it'd be too easy.

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

We're living there already, man.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought Momus already started a magazine. Didn't he? Called Vice, or something like that?

the river fleet, Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd subscribe to an Elvira magazine.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

run by the Oak Ridge Boys?

Luigi Vampa (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Mistress of the Dark Monthly! The Goth lifestyle magazine! Excellent! Much better than Propaganda...

the river fleet, Wednesday, 21 January 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I did a magazine cover for Nick once as a joke. It was called FOP! and had the strapline 'Momus: playing ping-pong with his ding-dong'

Damon Dash is doing a magazine called AMERICA. The woman that "just" ran off with Shar Spiteri's boyfriend is the fashion editor.
