fuck this shit i'm off out to buy SHOES this lunchtime. who's with me??

i'm thinking some nice flat shoes that i can dance in. i have too many pointy, painful shoes. also they have to be not too expensive. does anyone have any other suggestions?

Shoes?...You could be buying comics, you know! :)

I bought some new shoes on Saturday. They are narrow and black, not pointy but they get much thinner at the ends and have a squared off toe. They also have two very thin straps across the lower part of the shoe with tiny buckles at the side. Low straps across shoes make feet look smaller, and are therefore very good for me. My new shoes rock. Hard.

However, they aren't particularly comfy, unlike the flat, black mary janes I'm wearing at the moment. £35 from Shelleys, never caused me blisters and I can still feel my toes after hours of dancing in them, unlike the cripplers I wore to LondonIndieNYC on Friday night. I recommend something similar for you.

campers are comfortable well made but expensive, but seeing as I buy about one pair of shoes a year, and wear them all year, it matters more that they are comfortable well made and can be resoled. they have a shop on neal street and one on e oxford st I think. ver groovy girly shoes with buckles and sheep on them

Ed, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

sheep!?!?! explain further...

katie, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ahh, shoes. The Camper ones Ed speaks of are cute little flats with sheep appliqued on them which are kind of twee. Their VERY BASIC fklats are great and don't seem ever to go out of style. Shelley's have a lot of nice new things in and I might find myself over there in a few hours. Neal Street is generally a good bet between Office, Shelley's and a few other more expensive places but as it's not SALE TIME stick to the chains. Also Faith and Ravel are good because they occasionally have things you wouldn't expect and there is unlikely to be overlap between you and other friends.

man, i am so lame, i went out and bought..... a lemon zester. well there are no good shoe shops in ilford anyway *sulk*

katie, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Damn right. That's why I only ever wear DMs, and they're from a stall in Romford anyway.

I'm on Ed's once-a-year program, and last year's Campers have just officially sprung a leak. (And their non-Camper replacements turned out not to fit as well as they seemed to in the store.) Luckily, the IL* Chicago meet involved the sharing of some inside information about an upcoming sale at a shoe store near my place.

I explain all this just to say: see, IL* can hook you up with shoes, too.

Further note: Scott P. has the shoes that wouldn't fit me, the bastard.

I am all for black leather boots (or plastic if leather=bad) The tight kind with big heels and zippers, not the lace-up army type ones.

Maria, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

nitsuh, a good cobler should be able to mend your campers because they are made like proper shoes, with stiching and everything, might be worth a try especially if they are old friends. (I still morn a pair of boot stolen from me in nepal over four years ago)

I have bought a pair of pointy boots. A girl complimented me. She then asked where I got'em from. Later she came back and asked the address of the shop and even the price. You'd expect they hurt my feet as they are so pointy, but they are actually quite comfortable.
