Taking Sides: Johnny Red v. Charley's War

Charley's War: gritty First World War story in which Charley Bourne struggles to survive in the trenches. Very well regarded. Featured evil Captain Snell as main villain.

Johnny Red: vast panoramic Russian Front story about Johnny "Red" Surname, a British fighter pilot who, in an unlikely sequence of events finds himself flying with the Red Air Force. In a curious turn of events it transpires that Soviet & German airmen speak the same language and habitually tune in to each other's radio frequencies to shout things like "Die Ivan Die!".

I'm undecided.

I never read the old UK war comics and now I wish I had. One of the few pleasures of the current crisis though is reading the reports from the Northern Alliance in The Guardian which read like old Rogue Trooper dialogue.

Charley's War, but to be honest I can't really compare because CW was reprinted in the Eagle, which was revamped and went monthly in the early 90s, and which I also WUVVED, whereas my only experience with Johnny Red is from the 1984 Battle Annual which I picked up at a jumble sale. I wasn't very impressed, being a 10 year old self- appointed aerial warfare expert.
