Cheat!!!!!

You know those times when people say you are only cheating yourself. Well we proved yesterday in the proving place (the pub) that it was impossible to cheat yourself because you were aware of your cheating and therefore there was no deceit involved. That - however is neither here nor their - as whilst it is impossible to cheat yourself, it is certainly impossible to cheat other people.

So boardgames, card games, betting sport. What have you cheated at and are their any sure fire methods. Also - are some games cheat-proof?

I have been known to secretly stash 500 notes under the Monopoly board. Ahem.

I always liked trying to cheat on the game of life (we were gambling on the outcome) but I always get caught unless i can conspire that that the other people leave the room. thats just amateur.

Best Game Of Life cheat. Theatrical spinning of spinner when you desperately want a particular outcome (say an 8) hiding sureptitious application of blue-tac on to side of spinning making your score come in. BT is easily removed whichst moving the car, or fiddling around with peg children.

Lucy - 500 bills have be found stashed in my parents toilet before for father based cheating.

I despise cheaters in almost every form. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Ally C, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If you despise cheaters then your only cheating yourself. You obviously aren't cheating others. Cheating is merely rewriting the rules for a favourable outcome.

Is it cheating yourself if you cheat at a Fighting Fantasy book?

Tom, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It can't be, Tom. Whenever I used to cheat at those books I was generally cheating death...!

How to cheat at Downfall. Instead of loading disc 5 into the chutes, palm it. Then it is easy to drop it into the tray at the last minute, effecting a win.

I think it is impossible to cheat at Connect 4, except for the "dodgy flap" method to prevent a loss.

Pete, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Cheating at 'Connect 4' - not pointing out to yr opponent when they have got four in a row and failed to notice this? Or is that in the dubious area of gamesmanship?

Andrew L, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You have to spot it yourself. Related to "I've just landed on Mayfair with four hotels, but will you notice before you throw the dice?" tension. Adds so much to the game, especially when failure to notice results in a giant BWAHAHAHAHA from everyone else playing.

Madchen, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You've already lost at this point. Its not cheating if your opponent is too dumb to realise they have won.

I think I could write a book about cheating at Cluedo.

I have amazingly good eyesight which always comes in handy for seeing the answers on the back of Trivial Pursuit cards! I also know someone who reads through the boxes of cards before a game, but I wouldn't class that as cheating, just sad!

julia, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I usually win at Trivial Pursuit (US ed.) because I already know fucking everything, is that cheating?

dave q, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Euchre, unlike Bridge, has no method of communicating w/ yr. partner. Thus, suruptitious signals over bidding are a great fun cheat.

Sterling Clover, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I almost never cheat (I can't think of an instance) because of an irrational guilt reaction. Mutter mutter.

I thought this board was about the Clash song at first.

I cheat at football.

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 22 August 2004 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

How?

MarkH (MarkH), Sunday, 22 August 2004 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

a variety of ways. at corners, I stand on the toes of the person I'm marking so he can't jump. I tug shirts and shorts. I push and pull, at set-pieces. when tackling, I leave my feet in to ensure the person goes over. other things.

cºzen (Cozen), Sunday, 22 August 2004 09:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I assume the games you're playing aren't refereed!

MarkH (MarkH), Sunday, 22 August 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I would never cheat at board games, however. that's despicable.

(I have been known to 'bank' my own £500 notes under the board playing monopoly, but this is just to keep them out of harm's way.)

the games are refereed.
