Does anyone need a house in north London?

Dear IlE,
I'm moving out of my room in Crouch End, N8. I'm moving in with friends I know from university who live just around the corner.

It's a large double room (Toby and Gareth can verify this) with wood laminate floors and cream walls. It contains a double bed, built in wardrobe and a chest of drawers. There's enough room for the furniture, a large desk and stil some floor space to swing several cats (well, a couple). We have a garden with furniture, an alright kitchen with washing machine, cooker, fridges, a freezer, a microwave and a cheese toasty maker thing.

My flatmates (three blokes) would like another girl so it doesn't turn into a laddy house, although they aren't really like that.

The rent is £345 a month, including the water rates. The council tax is £42.50 a month. The landlord is a sweetie.

It's a big room in a nice area and it's cheap, esp. for the location.
I'm moving out on Sunday (yes, this is a rush job), so the rent would be payable from Feb 1st or 2nd.

Stephen and Doug (two of my housemates) are great guys and I've enjoyed living with them.

Here is the hidden drawback the estate agents wouldn't tell you about: the other housemate Chris is a bit of a freak. He's not a serial killer or anything, but he is annoying. He's not home much at the moment because he's somehow got a girlfriend.

So there you go, cards on the table. Anyone looking for a place?

Alternatively, just sympathise with me about the evil of moving house.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 29 January 2004 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Around the corner moving means at least you and three friends can pretty much do it by hand/with estate car. Imagine the hilarity of Ed and Nick chucking out soot-stained Ikea shelves while I 'supervised'.

(I try to slide into the 'supervisory' role in a moving situation as quickly as possible)

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 29 January 2004 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

haha! yes a supervisor is very impt! just provide the pizza to keep the troops from mutiny...

I just moved this past weekend so you have my sympathies. I'm still living out of boxes at the moment, I haven't had time to put everything away yet.

Yes, pizza is u&k in this situation.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 29 January 2004 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

the last two times i moved, i made the mistake of using band boys to help out. the first time, i sat waiting with boxes around me for four hours frantically calling to find out where the hell they were - home, sleeping off whiskey. the second time around wasn't much better. i'm not moving house again until i can afford people who don't go out all night drinking/weigh more than 115lbs.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 29 January 2004 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I've moaned enough here about the horror of my last house move, but I suspect you have less stuff than me and you aren't risking moving into a house with no services (electricity, heat, phone) on your own. Good luck with it anyway.

good luck anna!

i'd move to london today if i could but i can't.

All I want to know is how and why Chris is a freak. Specifics please.

we have a load of people coming to see them both this afternoon, but even though my housemates are teh awesome i would like it if i had at least one who i could gibber about music with and do crap indierock puns with without having to explain every reference all the time. thankyouplease.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 29 August 2005 09:39 (twenty years ago)

the room is open to a single person, but the rent remains the same and bills would then be slightly more too (all bills are split equally).

..and everyone will hate you :)

Is that for the room per month? Blimey, London's expensive. :-(

Haha I've inured myself to this by living in Dublin. Actually, this would be perfect if it was a month later. Or if I hadn't decided to hang around here for an extra month waiting for redundo that won't come. Bah.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 29 August 2005 10:01 (twenty years ago)

emsk - I'm really really interested in those rooms as am looking for a place with my current flatmate as of Sep 26, and we were thinking Dalston. In a massive rush right now and haven't had time to check it with him - does that email address work? I can email you tomorrow if so.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 29 August 2005 10:14 (twenty years ago)

lex, this email works if you replace the . with a _ or you can email us off the gumtree site. mail me tomorrow, come round tomorrow night if you like, or friday daytime.

*waves*

At your service, ma'am! If only I didn't already have a yum flat and my own personal indierock punmistress...

Is it a short(wave) let?

*runs away*

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 29 August 2005 11:30 (twenty years ago)

charlie, i kiss you.

and also

charlie, i kick you.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 29 August 2005 11:45 (twenty years ago)

oops lex friday daytime is no good i forgot, i'm working. obv i don't have to be there though... would be good if the other emma was... we just had one guy come round to see it and he seemed really sound. 5 more for that room today and one couple for the other one... i think i am going to sit in the garden and drink pink wine.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 29 August 2005 11:47 (twenty years ago)

like i say, there'd be no point in me moving in cos i already get the same kiss/kick ratio at home!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 29 August 2005 11:48 (twenty years ago)

-- nathalie's pocket revolution

ha, you don't wanna know what i've been paying this last year...and my new place still isn't as cheap as what emsk is offering

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 29 August 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

Man, that's cheaper than my house... argh. Emsk's house is lovely, I can vouch for that! Fantasic garden, friendly housemates, great parties, yeah.

(Please move in, Lex, that would be so convenient! Keep the Shimura Massive all together.)
