Every store I seem to go into around L.A. has nothing but those godawful trucker hats or some variation of them. look I have a shaved head and I'm sorry but trucker hats don't look good on guys like me. not to mention the potential danger of acquiring an awkward looking sunburn on the back of your head. Not that I'd wear them even if I let my hair grow long and shaggy of course!

so why can't I get a good ol' regular baseball cap? I can't even get a good Chicago Bears cap, they're all half orange, half navy blue monstrosities! arghh

sorry I'm posting whilst drunk.

My problem with most baseball caps is that they're not fitted (i.e. they're crappy one-size-fits-all jobs). If you have a freakishly large head like myself (apparently), those just don't cut the mustard. I have found a NY Mets cap (see below....)

...that fits pretty damn well, but honestly...I don't give a damn about the Mets (who suck). It'd be nice to find one displaying a team or cause or some element that I espouse (I have a Killing Joke cap, actually, though it hardly fits at all well).

Stop wearing these awful hats. Buy some felt and make a completely new shape of your own.

the second one is a little short on the baseball caps but has some truly bitchin' kangols. dunno where you live but there's a place that sells nice baseball caps in La Guardia!

You should get a golf visor

and there's a really kick-ass hat store in Comiskey Park, too - oh wait did they close down Comiskey? Jeez

felt is the new mesh,
momus is right.

but seriously folks, what about a hat from a school you've been to, college, high school, even elementary school? And fitted is key. That might rule out the elementary school hats, unless your head is, how shall we say, hypotrophied...

I like the Orioles and have an Orioles hat. Seems to fit ok. I don't wear hats often so I don't really care.

The Lids' "Hall of Famer" and "Franchise" hats are the best. Fitted, soft cloth, low-profile/no structure.

You think you've got it bad. I've been wearing what have become known as 'trucker hats' since I'm 16 years old (and have the photos to prove it), and now I can't wear any from my extensive collection without looking lke Paris fucking Hilton. I think I'm gonna start asking kids at the mall wearing Von Dutch hats if they know who Von Dutch even was, and when they don't, I'm going to beat the fuck out of them.

My advice: go to Lids, or some sports store, they always sell fitted hats. I was at Venice Beach a few days ago, and there were plenty of fitted sports team hats.

As for me, I'll continue to wear whatever I want and patiently wait for it to become unfashionable again.

But they made sounding like the Cars and ELO fashionable again too, so it evens out

apart from the sport, how come male (and some female) americans do wear baseball caps so much? shouldn't it ebb in and out of fashion (like crazy British styles)? how come the US male can wear the same thing for 20 years and be OK?

Think Tom Hanks or something...

I find the best caps given-up-for-dead in places like restaurants.
They've got to be a good one though. Trucker Caps = Redneck Apparrel, and we don't want any of that.

To hide our "problem hair".

i've got the opposite problem with baseball hats-- smallish head. so normal baseball hats look strange because they are too tall on me or something.

the best fitting hat i've had was a volkswagen hat i won at the auto show. i wore it for a summer before losing it. luckily, when i bought my jetta, the salesman ordered another one for me as a gift with purchase.
