Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

america loves "down to earth" pie-faced blondes?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:16 (twenty-one years ago)

She looks like a really cute junkie?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

oxymoron

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

she looks like she just snorted fresh lemon juice is what she looks like.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Somtime between "Bridget Jones..." and "Chicago", I'm convinced she had something done to her face. It's just not the same.

And all these stories about her channelling Janis Joplin and wanting to be the next Marilyn Monroe? Pul-LEEZE!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

its alex in nycampy!

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Fire Honoring Eye For The Straight Guy

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

hahah!

she has a nice face (i have said that mary looks a bit like her in the past which isn't really true, but still)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

she can do no wrong. she's perfect!

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

You've not seen Down With Love, then?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Nurse Betty = career peak (so far)!

Paul in Santa Cruz (Paul in Santa Cruz), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

it's such a good question. she's odd, and not in an endearing way. hate the way she does that crooked mouth thing...

paulhw (paulhw), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

She was in Jerry Maguire, maybe? I don't remember her being too famous before that movie. I think it basically jumpstarted her career.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Career peak - uncredited role in Dazed and Confused or Empire Records

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, she's appealing in frumpy roles but totally unconvincing in glamorous ones; but now that she's (inexplicably) such a star,
she's getting cast in more glamorous roles. Like in Down with Love she was HORRIBLE (but so was the screenplay).

Something appealing, in a Marge Simpson way, about her voice.

By the way, I have NO idea how to spell "glamorous."

Yup. I gotta admit I read it too. 'Cuz it really made me wonder why.

Somtime between "Bridget Jones..." and "Chicago", I'm convinced she had something done to her face. It's just not the same.
And all these stories about her channelling Janis Joplin and wanting to be the next Marilyn Monroe? Pul-LEEZE!

Yeah, she got fat(ter). Jack W. likes the fugly ones.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Monday, 2 February 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

take that back, fool

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 2 February 2004 01:19 (twenty-one years ago)

God, I forgot Jack White dates her. I don't anybody named "Blind" or "Mississippi" would have. What ever happened to tradition, man?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 2 February 2004 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked her in Jerry Maguire.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 2 February 2004 01:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the fat Renee.

ModJ (ModJ), Monday, 2 February 2004 01:42 (twenty-one years ago)

They already broke up! You aren't keen to the hype machine, my friend!

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Monday, 2 February 2004 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Will (will), Monday, 2 February 2004 01:49 (twenty-one years ago)

fat ample Renee definitely wins this one.

Will (will), Monday, 2 February 2004 01:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I've always had this same question about Julia Roberts. I don't get it at all.

Dan I., Monday, 2 February 2004 01:55 (twenty-one years ago)

jesus. Will OTM. A seven nation army couldn't hold me back.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 2 February 2004 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

"I'll have the cleavage...er, the special."

By the way, the answer to this question is the same as how anyone else who is female and sexy became a star - placing foreign objects (namely producers', casting agents', and directors' dicks) in her mouth, vagina, and possibly asshole. There you have it. Nothing against Miss Zellweger, but let's face it - stars had to fuck and get fucked by a lot of people to get to the top.

Girolamo Savonarola, Monday, 2 February 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

oh boo

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 2 February 2004 02:01 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean she wasn't just plucked from the waitressing pool at Bob's Big Boy because of her winning smile?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 2 February 2004 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

at the very least don't just assume this about females. If that Gay Mafia that Mike Ovitz shrieked about truly exists, we should also assume all male stars had to suck and fuck their way to the top too.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 2 February 2004 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah girolamo, that's pretty lame

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 2 February 2004 02:07 (twenty-one years ago)

holy fuck... I fucking HATE this place some days.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 2 February 2004 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

slocki, kim otm

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 2 February 2004 02:13 (twenty-one years ago)

actually I misquoted msn.com's headline. It's "how did she end up a star?"

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 2 February 2004 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Girolamo, that's pretty distasteful, putting it mildly.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 February 2004 02:22 (twenty-one years ago)

its the only explantion though.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 2 February 2004 02:27 (twenty-one years ago)

oh you and your explantions.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 2 February 2004 02:28 (twenty-one years ago)

from the interview:

Renee (in re: to moving to LA):For me personally, I wanted to go when I was invited. And I was invited.

BSW: Do you mean metaphorically? Or were you literally invited by someone?

Zellweger: Not in so many words. It was more that there were people who worked in the business of making films out here who were aware of some of the work that I had done and were calling to ask me questions and calling to sit down and talk about what my plans were. And that, to me, was scary in some respect, but there was nothing to lose, because I wasn't hoping for anything. So it was an equalizer.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 2 February 2004 02:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I refuse to believe she did anything that Matthew McConaughey didn't do either. Including that Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 2 February 2004 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I've always had this same question about Julia Roberts. I don't get it at all.
-- Dan I. (w1nt3rmut...), February 2nd, 2004.

You are my new ILX buddy. Be afraid.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Monday, 2 February 2004 02:53 (twenty-one years ago)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Monday, 2 February 2004 04:12 (twenty-one years ago)

she and Julia do have a certain dick-sucking quality about their mouths, it must be said

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Monday, 2 February 2004 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

well... almost worked

Jole, Monday, 2 February 2004 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Cripes that Von Bondies post-ass-whuppin' photo give me the heebiejeebies.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 2 February 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
Has anyone seen the cover of the latest Entertainment Weekly (with Renee & Russell Crowe on the cover)? You CANNOT tell me she hasn't altered her mug in some weird way. She barely looks human.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

Crowe rearranged her face with a phone.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

why are people angry about what giralamo said? i thought that was pretty much accepted about RZ (and many female and male stars, james dean was another high profile one)

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

go fatty renee, you are hot.

Nellie (nellskies), Monday, 6 June 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

I happened to see her on TV the other day, and her legs looked awful, like terribly scrawny, veiny old-man legs. And her face looked all pinched and pale and sunken. She looked sick, actually.

kirsten (kirsten), Monday, 6 June 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

Bridget Jones 3, then, for her health's sake.

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Monday, 6 June 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

Seriously, check out the cover of the new EW. It looks like she's wearing a creepy mask.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:00 (twenty years ago)

Fleshy Renee was so cute! Now she's even more gaunt than I am -- and I'm a slender mofo (but healthy -- it's my metabolism)!

Ian Riese-Moraine. Sweeter than a lorry load of white Toblerones. (Eastern Mantr, Monday, 6 June 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

she's rumoured to have a wee problem with the cocaine.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 08:59 (twenty years ago)

I liked her in that silly film with Jim Carrey

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Dada), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 09:34 (twenty years ago)

I happened to see her on TV the other day, and her legs looked awful, like terribly scrawny, veiny old-man legs. And her face looked all pinched and pale and sunken. She looked sick, actually.

when does she not look like this?

AaronK (AaronK), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

ie, looking like she just woke up with a hangover, high sensitivity to light, and a foul, sour taste in her mouth.

AaronK (AaronK), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

Bridget Jones 3, then, for her health's sake.

Actually, I think putting on a lot of weight and then taking it off again very rapidly like that (twice) could have lead to a lot of health probelms.

Leon hearts Crazy Frog (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 12:08 (twenty years ago)

she was quite hot/cute in "Love & A .45"
