Oh fucking hell, why do they have to go and ruin another great comic book by turning it into a shitty movie??

You heard it here first - Hellboy, the movie, April 2004. Is nothing sacred??!?

I think this was already argued over at some point, but I could be wrong.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 February 2004 07:21 (twenty years ago) link

But this one looks better than all of the other recent comic book movies.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 2 February 2004 07:32 (twenty years ago) link

Err... this'll be the one that Mike Mignola himself is Creative Director or something on? The leaked photos have been outstanding so far (especially the graveyard shot) and although I'm braced for this to be shit, I'm quietly confident it will, in fact, be aces.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 2 February 2004 07:38 (twenty years ago) link

It has to be better than "Van Helsing", that's for damn sure.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 2 February 2004 08:20 (twenty years ago) link

Yeah another literary adaptation using a secondary character as the lead in a new twist on things! Next up, the story of Oliver Twist, renamed "Fagin", which will do nothing but make 17yr old mallrats snicker as the title appears onscreen.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 2 February 2004 08:23 (twenty years ago) link

You heard it hear first. Idiot.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 2 February 2004 10:27 (twenty years ago) link

I've never quite grasped how a bad adaptation does any harm to the original.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 2 February 2004 18:08 (twenty years ago) link

Sigh.
Martin, Martin, Martin.
You're missing the point, being that it is the fanboy's unalienable right to thoroughly bitch and moan about any interpretation of character or likeness found to be less than "definitive."

Huck Stable (Horace Mann), Monday, 2 February 2004 18:12 (twenty years ago) link

My brother in law is doing something on this. Then again, he worked on the Lisa Kudrow/Damon Wayans rap movie. Okay, never mind.

Begs2Differ, Monday, 2 February 2004 18:14 (twenty years ago) link

I actually think Hellboy looks really good. plus the Del Toro factor.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 2 February 2004 18:23 (twenty years ago) link

"idiots" who don't bother to watse time searching stupid archives still get more pussy than compulsive computer nerds, so suck my dick.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:24 (twenty years ago) link

I don't think anyone who posts to ilx can bitch about compulsive computer nerds.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:26 (twenty years ago) link

Why all the Van Helsing hate?

dean! (deangulberry), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:28 (twenty years ago) link

COMIC GEEK THROWDOWN

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:58 (twenty years ago) link

I'm just wondering. It seems decent enough to me. I worked on it last summer and everything looked tight to me. Sure, I don't like Jackman or Beckinsale, but it looks LOADS better than any of the Mummy films.

dean! (deangulberry), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:59 (twenty years ago) link

I AM ALL OVER VAN HELSING LIKE JUSTIN ON JANET.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 2 February 2004 23:08 (twenty years ago) link

Me too!

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 2 February 2004 23:10 (twenty years ago) link

Dan, I'm going to get you naked by the end of this thread.

dean! (deangulberry), Monday, 2 February 2004 23:14 (twenty years ago) link

I always thought dean was Halle!

Leee Majors (Leee), Monday, 2 February 2004 23:16 (twenty years ago) link

He didn't bring any ice cream though.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 2 February 2004 23:16 (twenty years ago) link

For shame!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 2 February 2004 23:19 (twenty years ago) link

No, for laughs.

I take it Van Helsing is just an excuse to blow demons up, which I am quite fine with conceptually.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 February 2004 23:20 (twenty years ago) link

BINGO

(Also, Ned OTM)

(I wonder how much Nicole will hate me for this post?)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 2 February 2004 23:20 (twenty years ago) link

Icky!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 February 2004 23:22 (twenty years ago) link
