sarah is there a stapler in the vicinity?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 2 February 2004 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Now do I get another bog standard shoe express pair which will be CHEAP but break soon, or go to Office and get a more expensive pair but which might last me longer than a month or two?

Work shoes are BORING innit.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 2 February 2004 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

If work shoes are boring you're not doing it right. Can't you combine gothx0r fuck-me boots with your work attire?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 2 February 2004 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

There IS a stapler! I ph34r however it wd be no match for my clodhopping feet!! I might give it a go though.

Cor I'd be RUBBISH if I had to be Crocodile Dundee for a day, he'd just skin a 'gator or something.

PROGRESS REPORT: Stapler does not go through hard-wearing SHOE LEATHER!

Barry what kind of a professional do you think I AM?!

....

DON'T try it...

Sarah (starry), Monday, 2 February 2004 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i knew it was a Sarah thread by the title :)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 2 February 2004 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

What? I barely start threads EVER! Now make a helpful suggestion or... *runs about being flustered*

I am CONTEMPLATING getting a CAB to the shoe shop (do they take travelcards then).

This is the most exciting thing that has happened to me today!

Sarah (starry), Monday, 2 February 2004 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

What about string? In the olden days they used string to fix everything. String and tar.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 2 February 2004 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Poor love, reminds me of the time one heel from my chunky high heeled docs fell off when I was wandering up to another office, part way through the working day. I had to divert, hobble off to find a shoe repair place, and convince him that he HAD to repair it, or try and get the other heel off so I could walk properly.

Then in Shuh I had to argue that I couldn't not get it repaired as I had been in the middle of nowhere, midway through a working day, when she tried to argue that she couldn't give me my money back as I'd had it repaired.

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 2 February 2004 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

duct tape or electrical tape!

teeny (teeny), Monday, 2 February 2004 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

There is no tape here apart from the mini rolls of sellotape! Those are a non-starter from the word go... the shoe repair bloke across the way won't be able to fix them - I went to him before for a buckle replacement and he couldn't do it so I'd either have to travel and TBH they are getting on a bit and due a retirement...

WHAT A PALARVER!

Sarah (starry), Monday, 2 February 2004 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Has the shoe emergency been fixed?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 February 2004 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Two staples + mega stapler has now temporarily sealed the gaping void - WILL IT HOLD ALL THE WAY DOWN TOTTENHAM COURT ROAD?? You may well ask, o fair reader(s)! (I might take the stapler with me just in case... if anyone in the WC1 area spots some wino stapling their shoes... it's me!! Waaahey!)

Sarah (starry), Monday, 2 February 2004 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Success with this endeavour!

two years pass...
how much does it cost to get shoes resoled? I have a pair of standard work shoes that I paid $100 for 10 yrs ago (!) and I'm not sure if I should chuck them or take them to a shoe hospital.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 24 April 2006 20:33 (nineteen years ago)

Depends on the type of sole. I had a pair of combat boots resoled in...1995 I think...and it was like $20 or something. Are these shoes like hand-stitched by nuns in Italy? High-heeled? How worn are they and where?

All these questions will not help me quote you a price, I'm just curious. But if the upper's still good, you may as well visit a cobbler, I think.

sgs (sgs), Monday, 24 April 2006 20:40 (nineteen years ago)

yeah they're still in good shape except one sole is starting to get a hole. they're just mid-heel leather pumps. I'd really like to get a rubber sole put on since they're kind of slippery. maybe I'll take them somewhere.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 24 April 2006 20:45 (nineteen years ago)

It's always worth getting a pair of beloved shoes repaired.

Mädchen (Madchen), Monday, 24 April 2006 20:47 (nineteen years ago)

Yep. I've got a couple of office shoes that really need attention, but I don't have the funds just yet. I'm worried I've worn them past repair--they're both rather down at heel (correct term?).

Though be warned that newly-repaired soles will likely feel very different at first, but should still be as comfortable as before, and should break in in no time.

sgs (sgs), Monday, 24 April 2006 20:54 (nineteen years ago)

You can always have the heel lifts replaced for less money without resoling the rest. Because for most people, heels wear down faster. I usually get mine done at this sort of pricey place (because it's in midtown by my office and I'm lazy) and new lifts are still less than $10.
