defeatism vs. knowing your limitations

There will always be things you just don't do well at no matter what, and presumably you plan your life so you can sidestep these limitations and do what suits you best. And then there are times when knowing your weaknesses makes it too easy to say "screw this, I can't do it" when a little kick in the ass and some Ritalin is all you need. Insecurity can be a major factor here too though, and that knot is much much harder to undo than mere laziness. Alas, life goes on and you've just gotta deal.

So how do you find your balance between the two?

Karaoke and Alcohol is a good start.

Following the dictum, 'the mistake is the hidden intention', seize upon your weaknesses and explore their permutations relentlessly to the exclusion of everything else, loudly and firmly proclaiming your genius.

I will therefore be choosing a Celine Dion song.

it all depends on the risks/resources involved doesn't it? if attempting something (you feel) is too difficult that would result in death/serious waste of time/money/effort then sod it. if you're attempting something that is difficult, but failure would cost nothing more than maybe a dent in pride, then maybe it's worth trying just to expand your horizon..

it's a bit like attempting risky long pots in snooker (go for the "shots for nuthing" as john 'shutthefuckup' virgo would tell you)

("risky long pots" should have been "difficult long pots" obv)
