Can ILE stop the bird massacre?

Little birds, dead or dying on the ground below windows, makes me sad. How would you warn birds away from windows they might fly into?

When I was like 8 a pheasant flew into the window behind the TV while I was watching 'Love American Style.' It was weird, I saw it swooping in at me and BAM! It broke the window and was an awful, traumatic mess.

I know of a couple in Coromandel who draped a huge net from the verandah around their house (about 1m out) to stop kereru flying into the windows.

Don't fuck with natural selection.

Don't people use bird-shaped cutouts in windows? I think the idea is that a bird will recognize the shape of another bird (maybe a predator-type?) and avoid flying into it.

Love American Style!

The natural selection issue is actually mentioned in the article, the guy states something about the windows picking off the fit and unfit alike. We could put birds in fuzzy emo sweaters and prevent them from flying though.

Even better on the interstate. Nothing like cruising along with the windows down on a summer day on your way to go camping in the Red River Gorge with your dad when you're 12 years old and out of nowhere a fucking crow explodes all over the windshield.

I hadn't noticed the linked article before! The problem is larger than I thought.

"The thousands of windmills that generate environmentally friendly energy on the hills and canyons on the edge of the Bay Area have proven to be ecologically harmful. Birds are killed by the thousands each year in the turbine blades, and on Monday a local environmental group filed suit to make the Altamont Pass windmills less deadly to winged wildlife..."

two years pass...

In one instance, critics say, a group of wealthy vacationers believe a proposed wind farm off the Cape Cod, Mass., coast would spoil the view of the ocean from their summer homes.

*goes on killing spree*
