I just checked out "Davecat's Darkened Corner", which is the only Tripod site I could think of offhand, and there was just one popup, so perhaps I am overstating the case.

OTOH, The guy who ran the site seems to have removed all the great rambling industrialist essays that were once there, and now there's only a pic of him sitting next to a realdoll!! WTF???
